The game's gimmick outwears its welcome within half an hour and I spent about 90 minutes for the experience - suffice to say one feature of the game is stripped from you after a certain point and navigating becomes that much more difficult for it. I can't say that I think the way they balanced the horror and comedy of the situation very well, nor do I think that the premise comes together to say much of anything beyond "AI Bad," and dragging queer people working at Raytheon. It did not leave me with any new thoughts or feelings about those subjects, nor do I feel any stabbing pain about the loss of the cast. The way the cast types is very real, and very funny, but it's too detached. I also think that the initial premise just doesn't fundamentally do much other than be a suspense maker? It's very chilling to see there's a % that what I'm seeing is a woman (and now in hindsight I wonder if the AI can tell if someone is trans - diversity win if so!), but beyond being annoying to me a player it's not really hiding what's happened (because they're letting me read the logs so obviously I allowed to know?) so thematically what -is- the headset on me supposed to be for? I do not thin…

I'm not really sure how to describe my feelings about this game. I'm really bad at finding way in games. I suspect I spent way too much time just trying to figure out what the hell was blocking my path or where the hell I was. Can't remember how many times I completely failed to understand the room and give up and just wandered around in circles. I really enjoyed the documents just like little breaks. now i can see every team member's personality and relationships. I think it's genuinely impressive to pull it out through these logs. thank to Arhฅ. Without his localization work, I wouldn't have been able to experience such an excellent game with such experimental gameplay. I noticed some people mentioning *Iron Lung*. I really enjoy seeing indie developers experiment with new ideas and try out different approaches to gameplay. This game's mechanics gave me quite a bit of trouble, but also gave me an experience unlike anything else I've played. i love the sound design. The audio helped me figure out what kind of place I was standing or walking in, and then there were those horrifying words that would suddenly appear. ggggod where do i even start. everything feels .. so real. like this can really happen even though it's implementing fantastical elements. The characters hit extremely hard, and reading their messages as [spoiler] they know they're ineveitably going to die [/spoiler] just .. it felt as if i was reading someones actual messages. I think my favourite characters were definitely willow, ella, and riot as an entirety. Ella is a well-written mentally ill character [spoiler] (specifically BPD) [/spoiler]. It's that feeling of .. just feeling so much emotions to the point of.. sort of impusivity ? Another aspect i liked about the game is definitely the entire capitalism theme that ties it together. [spoiler] sacrifice your life just to survive, sacrifice your freedom just for money, whatever big corpa wants, you pay for it, with your humanity. [/spoiler] anyways .. if u like mentally ill gay ppl and capitalism then this game is for u lol (jokes aside, great game, its ambience is extremely well done, test your senses)

A very cool concept for a game that was a lot of fun! The game in totality isn't too long, managing to balance the anxiety-inducing navigation with a surprisingly investing human story. I came to be excited with every log pickup knowing I would get to learn more, while laughing at just how rude some of the game's stunts are. The navigation mechanics do feel strange at first, but the process of becoming more and more adept is satisfying and natural as you progress. Overall delightful, easy to finish in a single sitting if you're looking for a unique bite-sized experience.

Writing and voice acting is a bit hit or miss for me, but the idea is great and execution is pretty alright

Probably my favourite horror game thus far. Proximate has a lot of great features, a strong gameplay loop, good foreshadowing, and, somehow, a great story to boot. I bought this after watching a video on the game, but the story and gameplay still managed to hit, so yh. The game features a lot of wandering in the dark, with it getting more and more difficult to navigate. While this can be frustrating, it adds to the horror, and even helps provide some nice characterisation. It's also somehow funny? The further contrast this adds again only serves to enhance the disorientating mess that is navigation in this game. The flavour text only adds to this. Both through your main navigation tool's censoring, and the text logs. The story and strong characters definitely help encourage you to get through the more difficult parts. I personally wish the game left it a little more vague as to the cause of the destruction you explore, would make it a bit less generic and really drive home how insane the conditions were for everyone involved.
