About Deranged

In this intriguing story you will play the role of Meredith, the new tenant of the O'Connor mansion, a famous house rumored many centuries ago to have housed local witches, who were eventually captured and sentenced to death in the town square. To date there are only stories about a supposed curse, but in the end they are just that, stories ... or not?

As much as I want to recommend the game, I just can't. It looks great, at least in the graphics area. The movement is a bit slow, but it can be beared just for the sake of a horror theme. But the game is weak on the gameplay area. I understand difficult puzzles (and I like them!), but what I don't like are confusing puzzles. Puzzles that are mostly hard, not because the puzzle itself is hard, but because the indications are weird. I tried like 15 minutes to solve the "infamous" safe puzzle, but it's lacking some indications on what it's happening. The instructions on how to "reset" the code are confusing: What is left? A counterclockwise or a clockwise? Why there is no click sound or something that allows the player to know that there's something happening? I just don't know if what I deduced is right or not, because I can't know if the code is reseted or not. I really liked the atmosphere of the game, and I really want to keep playing it. But I just got frustrated by one simple puzzle.

For it's price it's "OK" It's more of a Mystery than a Horror game, lots of puzzles, not my forte' I played about 30 minutes of it, i can't understand the language and there's no way to change it.

For an independent developer, Deranged looks really really good. There's some great atmosphere here and awesome tricks against the player. If you're looking for a game like Amnesia: Dark Descent, you'll find it in Deranged though the game leans more on jumpscares than it does on the ever-persistent killers like in Amnesia. That said, the puzzles presented in Deranged are sometimes frustrating. There are clues hidden around the room but many don't apply to the current puzzle, or solutions are unclear. I reached a part where I needed to find a 5-digit code to a rotational lock, and I couldn't tell whether I was doing the puzzle correctly or incorrectly. The instructions in the game are written in English, but sometimes the instructions are unclear (like the use of the words "Counterclockwise", "Anticlockwise", and "left" interchangably. This left me frustrated and confused, while also combating the physical control of that puzzle. I didn't get far in Deranged, and I feel like some small updates would really improve the game. At $3, you're getting more game than you're paying for. But it might not be enough to leave you feeling good about it.
