Distant Garden

Distant Garden is one of those games that I found interesting mainly because of how unusual its atmosphere feels. I am given a huge procedural world to explore, with peaceful landscapes, strange visions and the constant feeling that something unsettling could be hiding nearby. I liked the combination of relaxing exploration and quiet horror because it makes the world feel calm without ever becoming completely safe. The exploration is very open ended. I can wander through procedurally generated terrain, gather resources and build camps wherever I want. I enjoyed having the freedom to decide where to settle because the world does not constantly push me toward a specific objective. It feels more like I am discovering a strange place for myself. Building also works well with the slower pace. I can gather materials and create a camp that gives me a little sense of stability in an otherwise unfamiliar landscape. I liked that the building does not completely dominate the experience. It is there to support exploration rather than turning the game into a complicated construction simulator. My review written during gameplay: The game has a rather mediocre main menu, just a box with some buttons. Trying to play "Under construction" puts me in an infinite loading screen, fun. You unfortunately only get 5 World saves, though you can rename worlds. Trying to load the 1st world slot puts me in a screen, it's hard to figure out what they mean by "32-bit identifier", but I'm pretty sure its just the world seed. Changing the volume crashed my game, very fun! The game has some bugs, like the volume crashing or the random block textures. The crashes are crazy, and I like how they have built in vein-mine. The UI is very inconvenient, and I don't have a pocket dimension (inventory) to store my stuff in. The shadows are broken, they reflect the block onto the shadow. It's really ugly... Identifying blocks was the hardest part, I think I'm mining dirt but its not dirt, this confusion is amplified by the bugged shadows. The game's music and atmosphere is definitely rather eerie, feels like something is going to happen but I missed it. I really like this game, I was about to buy Minecraft but instead I chose this game instead. This game is simple and easy to get in

lsd sim is fun

The game is unfortunately unfinished so in it's current state it feels like the alpha version of Minecraft, which does lend well to the horror elements of the game.
