About Drop Racing

Drop Racing is a block-based game with a racing mindset: the winner is whoever lands all the pieces on the track first.
Each track is a fixed sequence that is the same for everyone.
  • Identical sequences for fair competition
  • Pace and speed that escalate with your play — pieces rise and fall gaining speed as you pick up the pace
  • No hold, classic style (following the sequence is part of the challenge)
  • Lap marker: a two-block piece marks the start of each lap
  • Choice of rules: Original (with boosts and lives) or Classic (pure)
  • Modes: Single race, Championships and Time Attack with lap recording
  • Detailed leaderboards for times per track and per lap
  • Content included: hand-crafted tracks, tracks with intelligent randomisation and customisable teams
  • No grind: tracks and teams available from the start
  • Music: in-game tracks or option to use your own

Drop Racing offers a fresh take on Tetris by focusing on speed and rapid piece dropping rather than careful planning, featuring a polished space-racing aesthetic with multiple difficulty modes and game variants. Players praise the responsive developer, stylish presentation, and engaging competitive mechanics that feel skill-focused, though the lack of multiplayer and online leaderboards are notable omissions, and some feel the game strips away classic Tetris elements without fully establishing its own identity.

They didn't know what to do with Tetris anymore, so they came up with the idea of turning it into a racing game. Speed is gained by dropping pieces quickly, as well as a boost when we make lines. It's not about playing carefully, but about maintaining a constant speed, and, of course, the faster you go, the faster the pieces fall. Each planet (did I forget to mention that it has a space theme?) changes the composition of the pieces, the colour palette, and the background. Another highlight is the variety of difficulties and game options, along with how neat and polished it is. On the downside, it doesn't have a two player mode or online leaderboards. Still, if you're looking for an indie Tetris experience, it's a great option, with a demo included to try out.

I'm really enjoying this game - it had a few noticable shortcomings but within 2 days of posting my original review they were addressed and are no longer applicable. I'm extremely impressed by the responsiveness of the developer. It's a very stylistic and juicy game, with a wide variety in modes - most of these are inspired by racing games, such as championships, time attacks and single races. The aesthetic is polished and minimalist. I love the racing teams aspect, it's a little reminiscent of LEGO's Drome Racers theme back in the day. I'd love to see more lore and a more fleshed out world. It uses SRS, and is a good implementation of it. There is also no hold piece - I can respect this as a game design decision, but it's stripped down in many ways without adding much of its own flair (boost simply clears the board and boosts drop speed, and does not feel particularly rewarding). I think in it's current state it would benefit from a hold piece, but it could also take this a different direction and deviate from the Tetris formula. Punishing pressing buttons before the start is interesting - usually in other Tetris games I'll begin by holding down a button to charge the DAS so …

I'm not a fan of Tetris. I can only play Tetris for a minute or so before getting bored and frustrated. Drop Racing is an interesting spin on Tetris. I was unsure if I would accept the game because many games I receive I never review and this game is essentially a Tetris spinoff. If you're a fan of Tetris, you'll love Drop Racing. Full controller support. Very easy difficulty to very hard difficulty. You essentially race against bots which are the race cars in completing the most lines. There are several songs you can choose to play to, and several different courses. I enjoy this over Dr. Mario which was my previous favorite. I believe there are 57 achievements. Of course, this is just Tetris, but a very competitive Tetris.

Definitely recommended for all Tetris lovers! I've been playing this game for a while, and it feels like Tetris turned into something new. With just a few key rule changes, instead of focusing on line clears, levels, and points, it’s all about landing pieces as quickly as possible, which creates a surprisingly satisfying flow and a strong sense of competition in each run. It feels fresh, extremely polished, and focused on skill over RNG luck, with lots of customization options. Multiplayer and global leaderboards are currently missing, but it seems to be on the developer’s radar. The game is still actively updated, and the developer clearly listens to player feedback. Enjoy!

The game's speed control alone and the focus on dropping piece sequences instead of points/lines, makes this a new experience for long time Tetris players, with a different approach to the game's goal whilst maintaining a similar gameplay.
