[E]ISLAND HOP - Academic Version is a small-scale puzzle and exploration game that turns movement between isolated islands into its primary challenge. Created by Ghosgar3D and EigenKreation and published by MediaCube Games, the project originated as an academic computer science undertaking, which helps explain its deliberately compact design. Rather than attempting to deliver a sprawling adventure, it concentrates on a few interconnected mechanics involving navigation, environmental problem-solving, collecting portal shards, and completing the objective before time runs out. The player controls a cube stranded within a rocky bay containing numerous small islands. The ultimate objective is to gather all of the portal shards scattered around the environment and use them to complete an escape portal. Reaching those pieces is where most of the challenge lies. Water separates the available land, and the character cannot simply swim safely from one destination to another. This restriction turns what might otherwise have been straightforward exploration into a puzzle about finding and constructing viable paths. If you go in knowing that it was a project for school, all is fine. It's free and interesting.it reminded me of the knuckles missions in sonic adventure. I might show it to my children, but probably won't play it again.
