About Eight-Minute Empire

Eight-Minute Empire, by Ryan Laukat, is a quick Civilization/Exploration game using card-driven area control.

In Eight-Minute Empire, 2-5 players take turns selecting a card from the six displayed. This card gives the player a resource and also has an action that the player takes immediately. Actions help players take over the map, but the resources are worth points at the end of the game, so players have to balance the two aspects. Players spread across the map in order to collect points at the end of the game by having majority control in regions and continents.

Eight-Minute Empire is a super-quick area control game requiring tough decisions. It’s easy to learn and perfect for when you only have a few minutes.

KAMGUSTA'S MINI REVIEW It's the digital version of the very same boardgame, with "area control" mechanics and short matches. Its simple gameplay is further simplified by removing the need to calculate the scores. Maps should have been included from the start, they are a hidden cost and without them the game gets repetitive very quickly. It's not bad, but it's better live. Best played with mouse Recommended buy price: 8$ (with all maps included) Score: 6,5/10

Fun board game. Playing with the AI is ok, but I can't imagine how horrible it'd be to play with humans due to the rage inducing strategies you might need to employ, especially on the last turn...

I believe that most of the negative reviews of this game are totally unjustified. It is a brilliantly enjoyable board game. Simple, straightforward, albeit at times perhaps a little bit too short (an option to play an extra two rounds could be advantageous). We are never able to actually play a game in 8 minutes, but you could easily play a series of 3 games within two hours, even with the most arduous group of friends. Heck, it might actually be feasible in half an hour, if your friends could just stop overthinking everything. The criticism on the price is outright ridiculous, since the whole thing can regularly be bought for about €7, including all available extensions. These provide new boards and a few refreshing additional mechanisms. Every single one of them a welcome addition to the base game. However, there is one extremely severe problem with the game that does actually warrant a negative review: serious synchronization issues that obliterate the point of some of the core mechanisms. At the start of the game, players bid on who can choose who starts the game, but because of these synchronization issues, that decision frequently has to be made on the premise that…

Fun game with a very quick playtime and a good amount of strategy to win. There's some complaints about the add on maps being $2 each, but honestly the full game + maps pack on sale for like $15 still seems worth it to me.

Basically got this almost at the strike price point. Too bad it's so addicting it's beating MARVEL SNAP in popularity! WHEW! Glad I got this almost at 0 dollars. It's such a good game the developers are excellent people.
