It’s fundamentally flawed in its design, creating an experience that feels harder than it needs to be. The precise platforming took me a while to get used to due to its old school approach, and I found myself thoroughly frustrated throughout my playthroughs. The game constantly demands sharp timing, instant reactions, and a whole lot of patience. To its credit, the movement feels smooth once you adapt, and the visuals aren't anything spectacular but there’s a striking style here that caught me off guard at first. The Balinese inspired environments look great, and you can tell care went into the world’s presentation. It carries that “hardcore challenge” identity some people love, and there’s a certain speed runner energy that rewards shaving off seconds and improving your lines. But the experience is also short, the learning curve is more like a cliff, and the lack of onboarding means you’re thrown into the deep end with little direction. It’s the kind of game where enemies are brutal, mistakes are punished harshly, and the sense of progress sometimes feels more stubbornness than satisfaction. And yet something kept dragging me back. Twas alright. Monsters were alright apart from the weeping angel which sucked and did weird things. Platforming was decent.
I'm not a biggest fan of games like that, however got it almost for free in some winter steam sales bundle, so I gave it a try. Actually liked it a little bit, fun challenge. Cool boss elements, I liked monkey throwing rocks the most, reminds me of mamut boss in Savage Divide dungeon in MMORPG that is dying now. Achievements do work, however they only pop-up when you go out of the game, but the time of getting them is correct. The only downside that I really did not like is that I finished the game without having 100 slow-mo uses and I needed to reply more than half of a game to get it. Chapter select after beating the game would be good.
Decently hard game but still okay :)
Escape from Naraka is an intense, fast-paced first-person platformer that draws inspiration from Balinese mythology to craft an otherworldly descent into a temple filled with danger and mysticism. Developed by XeloGames and published by Headup, it takes the player on a desperate journey through the underworld to rescue a loved one, blending cultural myth with modern speed-running gameplay. From the opening moments, the game establishes a sense of urgency—each corridor, trap, and demon encounter pushes the player forward with relentless momentum. It is not a story-driven experience in the traditional sense; instead, narrative serves as a framework for atmosphere. The minimalistic storytelling leaves room for the game’s visual and environmental design to convey its mythological roots. The premise may be simple, but its execution captures the feeling of an epic escape from a nightmarish, sacred realm. Visually, Escape from Naraka is one of the more striking indie titles of its kind. Built in Unreal Engine 4, it showcases rich detail and advanced lighting effects, with full support for ray-traced reflections and shadows. The game’s temples, carved stone corridors, and infernal archite…
