This is the dungeon crawler I have been searching for. The gameplay is Darkest Dungeon but with Baldur's gate combat and it looks like Hammerwatch. Its the complete package!4 found this helpful
I like this game. I'm not sure there's really anything else like it--is it a dungeon crawler or a roguelike? Kinda both? The game can be as challenging or as easy as you want it to be. Combat is like Baldur's Gate 1&2, which works really well. Depending on the difficulty, the battles can be pleasantly challenging. There's a lot of room to get creative with different spell combinations (cast fireball, then put the enemies to sleep...in the flames!) Each class is pretty fun and they all offer some unique helpful ability you'll be missing each run. The dungeons can get a little repetitive; I wish that there were more monsters that were unique to different biomes, or at least their abilities were more unique.1 found this helpful
I like the concept, but it's hard to get immersed into.
I've only finished the first map run, but I'm really enjoying Escape the Mad Empire. People keep comparing the combat to Baldur's Gate 3. To me it feels closer to the Pathfinder games—real-time with pause. This is pretty much exactly the kind of game I've been looking for. I love BG3 and Pathfinder, but sometimes I just want the tactical fights without a long story attached. Kill stuff, grab loot, keep moving. This game nails that. Only small note: the pixel art is solid, though I'd still prefer higher-fidelity graphics. What's here looks good, though. Definitely recommend it. Looking forward to seeing how the game grows from here.
Very nice roguelike! It has neat deep skills and battle mechanic, where you have to think about what you are doing. Not just keep bashing, that will get you nowhere. Be prepared to think about every move during heated battles and seek various solutions and techniques to make it out of runs alive. And that is a good thing. I would like to note here that difficulty/reward ratio can be adjusted. So overall I enjoy the gameplay and would certainly recommend for roguelike games fans.
