Flat Worlds

Development seems to have stopped, and the game is extremely incomplete which is a shame as this had a ton of potential.

What really sets it apart is that the worlds you explore are relatively small squares of land, it’s not like you’re exploring vast amounts of planetary terrain, in fact I would argue that there’s no exploration at all because you can see all the land in front of you at a glance. So it’s not an exploration game, but it is a strategy game heavily based in colonization, and setting up resource transportation networks. I personally found the learning curve steep, there’s a lot to get your head around. There are multiple resource types, including people, water, energy, metal, and crystals. And for each resource type you’ll need unique vehicles to arrange transporting them between worlds. To make all of that happen you’ll need special ports and docks to facilitate all of that. It’s a well made, and unique, strategy game. If you’re looking for Command and Conquer, you won’t find that here. But if you would enjoy a somewhat zen, and complex, colonization game that’s all about networks and facilitating, then you’ll love this game.

A fun VR experience that could use a few QOL improvements but overall is really fun. Flat Worlds puts you in the Milky Way Galaxy and has you colonizing planets and organizing transports to supply each colony. It's a balancing act that gets hard to maintenance each time a colony levels up. The game ran fine in VR and besides a few quick turns while riding on a transport ship I never had any motion sickness, that's just an experience and not required btw. The QOL improvements I would suggest are as follows. A way to speed up game play, it can get really tedious waiting for that next planet to level. The other big one would be better information about transportation and using multiple ports to supply each city. [/i] I will admit that I am not the best person to review this game because I don't normally enjoy management type games. And this game is a resource management game. There really isn't more to this game than juggling the resources in one planet and then adding another one into the mix. Specifically, you're in the transportation management game. You'll be transporting people, water, minerals, or power. You will find out that space ships break down a whole lot. Who made these ships? Constant breakdowns are a way of life. The good news is that nothing comes out of left field, you can see what's going right or wrong just by paying attention to the worlds. The more planets added to the mix, the more there is to keep an eye on. The good news is that once you get a hold of things, the game really does have a relaxation type atmosphere where you don't need to constantly attend to everything going on. Kind of fun, but unfortunately VR died right as it came out and the dev lost heart in the project. If you read this, I'm sorry you didn't get more traction. I had fun for a while! More than most VR games managed to be honest.
