About Gameartopia
GameArtopia - Virtual Playable Archive of Catalan, Latin American and International GameArt, is the first playable catalog on the subgenre of Game Art.
With it we present works of artists recognized by the art system who have used the game and video game creatively, deciding to mark the focus of analysis in Catalonia, Spain and Latin America.
With this archive we intend to map the multiple territories that Game Art has intervened and promoted, establishing links with communities, collectives and institutions that from Catalonia and the rest of the world create from this framework.
In the spirit of Arsgames, we have decided to experiment with the archive format, taking advantage of gamification strategies to approach new audiences and create collaborative relationships with art collectives, museums, institutions and entities.
The game, developed with Godot Engine software, allows access to more than 50 works of art.
The game consists of a first-person visit to an island where the player can collect cards that represent works of art based on video games. In the inventory the player can explore the works and find more information about these works and their authors.

Gameartopia is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this software. Instead of being a game, Gameartopia is a software application that shows a virtual art gallery... yeah, that's right. What's happening here is some guy ripped off a whole bunch of [i]other people's art[/i] and is trying to get famous on the backs of other, real artists. Pretty disgusting if you think about it. And it should go without saying (but here I am saying it)... virtual art galleries, especially ones with art ripped off from other people, are [b]not games.[/b] For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. The actual art gallery is interesting, and I wish the description for each art piece would be a bit more in depth (and also, translated in more languages). The process to unlock said art gallery, however, is pretty obnoxious.2 found this helpful
