Uncover dark secrets at Oxford University as you play between a reclusive neurobiologist and his street magician assistant, recruiting human test subjects for mysterious experiments that blur the line between science and the supernatural. From legendary adventure game designer Jane Jensen, this eight-chapter mystery weaves paranormal horror with character-driven storytelling to explore the nature of reality and the human mind.

After a tragic accident, neurobiologist Dr. David Styles has become a recluse, rarely leaving his home, the Dread Hill House. One day, Samantha Everett, a street magician, appears at Dr. Style's doorstep just as he is seeking a new assistant.

Samantha's first task is to find six people to form “The Lamb's Club” of human guinea pigs for Dr. Style's tests at Oxford University. The experiment starts off innocently enough, but then a chain of inexplicable incidents begin to occur, one after another.

Are these experiments as innocent as they appear? What is the true aim of Dr. Styles' research? What secrets are waiting to cross over from the other side?

Gray Matter is a gothic, character-driven point-and-click adventure that carries the unmistakable fingerprints of classic narrative design. Developed by WizarBox Production and published by Viva Media Inc, the game weaves together melancholy, mystery, and psychological tension in a way that evokes the best traditions of old-school adventure storytelling. Set primarily in Oxford and the shadowed corridors of Dread Hill House, the environment establishes a haunting mood from the opening scenes. Its misty streets, old libraries, and candlelit manor interiors all contribute to a tone that is both eerie and grounded, setting the stage for a story that straddles the line between the scientific and the supernatural. At the heart of the game are its two protagonists, Samantha Everett and Dr. David Styles, whose alternating perspectives form the emotional backbone of the narrative. Samantha is an itinerant magician with a rebellious streak, arriving in Oxford by chance and stumbling into an assistant position with Dr. Styles. Her street-smarts and penchant for illusions give her chapters a livelier, more exploratory energy. Styles, meanwhile, is a brilliant neurobiologist cocooned in grief…

By far the most intricate and mature story I've experienced in a point and click adventure, and arguably in any video game. There is some jank in the gameplay department, but the overall experience is overwhelmingly powerful, evocative, emotional, and all kinds of other feelings I can't quite put into words. Highly recommended.

Gray Matter is an old school point & click adeventure. The puzzles are good designed, not too simple but also not too difficult. They hit a nice sweet spot. The plot is also very interesting, engaging and sometimes a little bit creepy. Give it a try. I can fully recommend to play Gray Matter

Livestream: https://youtube.com/live/AvgSw8tiY5Y I was recommended this game years ago by a few friends of mine and what they spoke about was how the one singing the main song of the game is also the daughter of one of the people who actually worked on the game. She's part of a emo-folk band called the "The Scarlet Furies" where they cover some of the songs, including Sam's song (the main character) which is really addictive and I bought off itunes: https://youtu.be/lJzU4j4ob5c?si=l0IsX2tLito-O48f So you play as this young woman named Sam who gets diverted on her way to London to learn about this mysterious "Daedalus Club" (which you learn is a secret magician society) but the home her bike breaks outside of, lives a scientist whose research digs into the paranormal as he attempts to connect to his late wife, who he claims to be seeing or getting messages from. Sam cons herself in, pretending to be an assistant sent by the local university so that she can have a roof over her head and pay off the repairs for her bike before finishing her journey to London, however, she soon learns that here in Oxford she's able to take part in a set of tasks to gain membership and attempt…
