HEATHEN is a solo adventure with an immersive first person view (F.P.S) created by 2 indie developers.
The English expedition "Peary & Scott" discovers an island populated by strange and ferocious creatures. Half-human, half-animal, they were created by the famous Dr. Moreau. Peary, a scientist and biologist, resumes his work.
At a time when the abolition of slavery continues to grow worldwide, Scott, a wealthy industrialist and close to the royal family, sees huge potential in those "beasts": Cheap, hardworking manpower, easily renewable, and gifted with remarkable physical abilities.
In just 20 years, in secret, Peary and Scott will create hundreds of these "beasts" and build an empire. Inevitably, however, humans will lose control of the island: The north is occupied by humans, trapped and hidden behind their wall; while the rest of the island is populated by various generations of "beasts", which are often hostile towards each other. Most degenerate very quickly, and fall in bestial madness.
This is where your story begins: you are one of those "beasts". Your task will be long and difficult: Explore, develop, understand and reclaim the island, while respecting the law of Moreau.

This game has a very eerie atmosphere, nice graphics, and a great enemy design. You can really feel that the island hides a mystery around every corner. You become immersed in this beautiful yet brutal world and keep moving forward. Eventually, you realize there’s no ending to the story yet, as the game is still in Early Access. Still, with around 9 hours of solid gameplay, it’s definitely worth giving this title a chance.
Based on the book The Island of Dr Moreau, Heathen is one of the most original games I've ever played, although, all the excitement stops there...the game is in Early Access since 2018, without any updates since then, and can now be considered abandoned. I cannot recommend it only for that reason, and even if you don't mind it's price, the fact that it will probably remain in a cliffhanger forever, is just heartbreaking... I watched this game for about a year, waiting to see if it would go on sale. It never did. I finally bought it and was very disappointed with the purchase. Its boring, the graphics and game play are so-so at best. While the store page makes it look enticing, its plays like a one person developer who made it as a hobby.
