Idle & Incremental Lovers recommends Hex Core : [i] Classic short incremental experience: start weak, buy upgrades, become stronger and tackle more dangerous threats until the final showdown. Good pacing, but progression is a bit too linear. [/i] + Game isn't really fun from the get go, but it becomes better and better the more you play, buy upgrades and unlock things. Explosions and chains reactions become a treat for the eyes. + Minimalist and retro art style is enjoyable and fits the story. + Pete the penguin (kinda your coach in all this) is cute, and actually plays an important part in the story. + A (short) story and a final boss = A feeling of realization. I wish more devs took this equation into account, like this one. - It felt a bit too on rails (especially the "research" part): many things unlock through normal progression (number of kills, number of upgrades bought, beaten levels...), which limits the player's choices (a bit sad, isn't it?). A short, nodebuster-like virus-shooter game that has a different aesthetic (mainly hexagons) and a cute approach to what your defending (a penguin-like OS, hah). The soundtrack is a banger as well.

I was a little iffy about the game but I’m glad I played it! I really enjoyed playing it!

Pros: - Simple controls and practically zero learning curve. - Each round is usually under 30 seconds, which is good for short sessions. - Permanent upgrades make death rewarding rather than punishing. - Mid/late-game screens are filled with satisfying bullet/laser chaos. Cons: - 100% completion takes around 3 hours. - Low replay value. Overall a great, cozy time-killer while it lasts.

This game bucks the trend with a menu that is actually clean, simple, and gets you straight into the action without forcing you to click through a dozen pointless tabs. [b]Live. Die. Repeat. But Better.[/b] The gameplay itself actually respects your time and skill. Changing the difficulty is not just some lazy stat padding where they double the boss health. The game actively introduces completely new enemy types to keep you on your toes as you progress through the levels. It actually forces you to adapt. You also get to make meaningful choices right out of the gate. The early upgrade paths branch out in ways that let you completely alter your playstyle right from the start, rather than waiting until the end of the game to feel powerful. I rolled the credits in a breezy 2.2 hours, and I enjoyed the absolute hell out of every single minute. I am already completely sold on whatever these developers decide to cook up next. The Verdict: for 5 USD this is a solid 10/10. Chill. Fun. Can't wait for more.
