I might have a slow reaction time but that don't mean I can't stumble my way to some checkpoints (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ https://youtu.be/h1n6C_X2rOI2 found this helpful
I really like how the monowheel slightly tilts when turning, and also the destruction/breaking details, those feel super nice. The stylized materials have a lot of personality too. You can tell a ton of effort went into designing the levels and especially the swing mechanism. Honestly… I’m just gonna blindly support this and brag everywhere like “yeah my friend made this game” lol. And here is some things I think could be improved: UI and fonts: The icons on the start menu aren’t super intuitive. I actually stared at the quit button for a few seconds before realizing what it was. It might help if the four icons were grouped together, since placing them diagonally made them a bit hard to notice at first. The in-game font is kind of hard to read, especially in all caps. I personally get pretty dizzy trying to read it. The speed doesn’t show any unit like km/h or mph. Some levels show coins as 9999 out of 9999, which feels a bit off. The UI doesn’t seem to support controller interaction. Gameplay: Those two vertical objects on the edges of jump platforms are a bit annoying. I keep bumping into them and falling off. The jump input on keyboard feels a bit inconsistent. Sometimes I…2 found this helpful
I already knew the game before I had it on Steam. I really appreciated Hook & Roll because it manages to combine two different genres in an interesting way: racing and platforming. What works best is that speed is never an end in itself: you have to control it, use the grappling hook well, choose the right trajectories, and keep the rhythm going. The game is satisfying precisely when you manage to chain movement, momentum, and precision without breaking the flow. I liked it because it doesn’t feel like a simple platformer with racing elements, nor like a racing game with a few extra jumps: the two aspects work together. The track becomes a space to read and interpret, almost like a platforming level built around momentum. Recommended for anyone who enjoys games where movement is the real protagonist.
