About In Our Parlor
STORY - In Our Parlor tells the story of a game developer who falls asleep at home and dreams about the game world they're creating. To end the nightmare and wake up, they must make their way through their own creation and reach the parlor. THE EXPERIENCE - Atmospheric horror and realistic set pieces make this horror walking simulator an immersive and terrifying experience. The surreal settings and music drive this mysterious narrative. GAMEPLAY - Using only the light of a lantern, navigate a series of dark set pieces and follow the music to discover the path forward. The player must make their way through a mysterious manor to unfold the story, find the parlor, and escape this nightmare. MUSIC - Featuring original music by Kyle Faber
Sure, why not?
The main thing: manage your expectations. – The description says you must walk through various rooms to find "the story" but there is barely any story at all – if you're looking for one, look elsewhere. – When I got to the end and it faded to black, I literally thought, "Don't tell me that was it." And indeed it was it. I honestly couldn't believe this game was taking up 13GB of real estate on my hard drive and it was only 20 minutes. It's a really short game with pretty graphics and music. Slight creepiness, but nothing overwhelming. Typical walking simulator. It's free and it takes less than half an hour to play, so if you're looking for a "palate cleanser" in between longer games, this isn't a bad choice. It's nothing groundbreaking or even unique, but I liked looking at the pretty things and listening to the old school music. It was oddly relaxing.
In Our Parlor is a small but atmospheric mystery that leans hard into mood and tension. The hand‑crafted environments feel intimate and unsettling, and the slow unraveling of the story keeps you hooked. If you enjoy short narrative games with a strange, personal vibe, this one’s a gem.
My first time playing it softlocked during the intro. the royalty free black and white horror movie on tv (which looked awesome by the way) stopped playing and i was just stuck on the couch. ah well, it happens. My second time I got through the intro, yay! I then turned off the record player in the dream to have no assets or level load in except the fireplace. a fatal error window appears and the game crashes. ah well it happens. My third time the level actually loads. yay! i just walk in a hallway and a big dining room and i see a horse statue. nothing is interactive or interesting and there are no scares and the atmosphere, while there, is not what id call thick. ah well it happens i watch a boring shot of the side of a house in the movie theatre and nothing happens but the music really tries to make me think something is. i leave the movie theater and there is a black screen. nothing changes. i am softlocked on a black screen. i uninstall the game because it doesn't work ah well, it happens.
ummm. What did I just play. It's atmospheric sure, but there is no story, no scares, and it took longer to install than play.
This game is a short game, but worth the playthrough. the atmosphere seems dark, but the graphics are done well. Field of view/Depth of Field was semi realistic as well.
walking sim that does the “things change when you look away” mechanic, was actually pretty decent and pretty seamless in all those transitions. would recommend,
