Insectophobia : Episode 1 is a construction kit copy + paste game. The "developer" used the craptastic Adventure Game Studio video game construction kit, copying + pasting and arranging premade assets, using premade level design tools so they could pretend they're an actual game developer. They made a really badly assembled, badly written 2D side scrolling adventure game with a reasonable concept and craptastic execution. The idea is that you're in a facility that conducted scientific experiments on insects, and yeah, you guessed it, it went all Jurassic Park (but with insects). This is for some reason "Episode 1", but the "developer" couldn't be bothered making any other episodes, and dumped this incomplete mess onto Steam as a cash grab. A strong argument can be made that construction kits like Adventure Game Studio should never be used to make games for profit, as the "developer", Proximity Games has done here. These construction kits are intended to teach people some of the basic principles of game development, and to make small demos to pass around with friends. They're not intended to replace to actual work of real, professional game developers. So it's inappropri…

I recommend this purely for the janky torture that is this game. I bought this on the steam sale, I actually bought every single one of this devs games by the way, because the games have a certain unintentional hilarity to them. The main issues I had here are : - When you die, you spawn back where you last died, most times the enemy you killed before you died respawns at full health but you do not. - The hit boxes are not well placed (sometimes an enemy can magnetize to you when you should have gotten away. - There is no way to actually conserve ammo because even if you run, an enemy can stop you in your tracks and ammo is very limited. I would like to one day go back to this because I enjoy terribly reviewed games and I like old school PC game graphics similar to this. I would love to get to the end but with limited supplies and no way to play smart and conserve, it's going to take me a bit to want to go back and make them earn my 27 cents. Or rather the $1.62 total I spent buying all of their games on the steam sale.

Insectophobia: Episode 1 is a 2D action platformer with survival horror elements developed and published by Proximity Games that combines side-scrolling gameplay with science-fiction mystery and creature-based horror. Designed as the first chapter of an episodic storyline, the game introduces players to an isolated environment filled with danger, unanswered questions, and mutated insect threats that turn a routine assignment into a desperate struggle for survival. Rather than focusing on large-scale progression systems or complex mechanics, the experience builds itself around atmosphere, exploration, and tension-driven encounters. The story centers on John Benton, a technician assigned to restore communication systems at a remote research facility after contact with the island suddenly disappears. What initially seems like ordinary maintenance work quickly reveals itself to be something far more dangerous. Upon arrival, John discovers abandoned locations, hidden information, and terrifying creatures that have transformed the island into a hostile environment. The deeper players move into the facility and surrounding areas, the clearer it becomes that a serious catastrophe has occu…
