About It Moves

It Moves is a horror game that will try to scare you without too many of the typical "screamers", instead relying on atmosphere and suspense. You'll be solving puzzles along the way, and encountering all manner of not-so-friendly creatures.

Short story overview:

Bedtime is supposed to be a happy event for a tired child; for this child it was terrifying. While some children might complain about being put to bed before they have finished watching a film or playing their favourite video game, when he was a child, night time was something to truly fear. A fear which in his life, I’m glad to say, has never been equalled. This story will relate it to you all now. The apprehension towards falling asleep in that small, narrow, yet oddly elongated room.

Based on a short story by Michael Whitehouse

Pretty scary. What separates it from other horror games is that you aren't actually being chased by something/someone, rather you feel like you are through the unsettling atmosphere.

It Moves is a psychological horror experience that understands how powerful atmosphere and imagination can be when combined with slow-building tension. Created with RPG Maker, the game initially appears visually simple, but beneath that retro presentation is a deeply unsettling story centered around childhood fear, nightmares, and the terror of feeling unsafe in what should be the most familiar place imaginable: your own bedroom. Rather than depending heavily on loud jump scares or constant monster encounters, the game focuses on emotional discomfort and suspense, creating a horror experience that quietly lingers in the player’s mind long after the credits roll. The story follows a young child terrified of sleeping because something seems to exist within the darkness surrounding his room. As the nights continue, the protagonist becomes trapped inside increasingly disturbing dreamlike worlds where reality and nightmare slowly blend together. The game approaches its horror from a psychological perspective, using surreal imagery and fragmented environments to reflect fear, anxiety, and helplessness. The narrative unfolds gradually through exploration and environmental clues instead o…

RPG Maker strikes again! "It Moves" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. Notably, the "developer" couldn't work out how to use RPG Maker to make a JRPG (the only thing it can do, and it's terrible at it). Instead, we have a top down "adventure" game with a 14 year old goth poetry tier story adapted from a short story about a kid who doesn't want to go to bed because of scary nightmares. Presumably the kid frequently dreams about being forced to play RPG Maker asset flips. . As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for…
