About It was a human.

"It was a human." is a short SF psychedelic interrogation adventure game that focuses on the interrogation of a suspect in a dismemberment murder case.

The game's setting begins with a murder that occurred in a hotel in Kase City, Saga Prefecture. When the police arrived, they discovered the bodies of two unidentified men. The cause of death for each was presumed to be traumatic shock due to blunt force trauma and asphyxiation, respectively. Also, at the scene, a woman suspected to be the perpetrator, Okoze Isana, was found standing with a coping saw in hand. The investigation team considers her to be the murderer in the dismemberment case.

The protagonist of this game is a lieutenant colonel in the military, tasked with interrogating the suspect, Okoze Isana. The protagonist needs to find out why she killed the two men and how she committed the crime.
Okoze Isana might use sweet words or flirtatious glances towards the protagonist during the interrogation, but she is considered a villain and virtually a criminal. The condemnation of her is the objective of this game.

I'm giving this game a thumbs up but I wouldn't actually reccomend buying it. You'll see it in just about every review, but the use of AI art really does kill what is otherwise a great game. The presentation is simultaneously good and bad. I like the layout of the game, particularly how the two side panels will swap out to fit the mood or sitation that you're in. The way the game flashes the "Interrogation Start" message before you begin asking questions. How the text color metaphorically reprsents things or how it changes based on the character you're interacting with. Many of these small artistic decisions go a long way and genuinely add to the experience. Then some of the design decisions are just straight up goofy. Some aspects of the game look like they were made in power point, the decision boxes in particular. Not to mention once again the heavy use of AI art really detracts from the game. The story is the real strong suit of this game. There are multiple endings with one true one at the end. It does get a bit cheesy but I quite liked it along with its themes and messaging. The experience when you're playing through it though is interesting. It felt like I was reading a …

I'm somewhat fond of the underlying Japanese text, but it's let down by the English localisation. The original Japanese uses a lot of phrases that are distinctly Japanese but the localisation fails to do more than a direct translation of the words resulting in a lot of text sounding rough and extremely unpoetic, particularly towards the end where it really wants to beat you over the head with its message. A majority of the art assets are AI-generated in the game. Most of the backgrounds are appropriate (assuming you're AI image neutral), but the AI-gen character portraits are jarring at times due to the strange sizing/aspect ratio. At times it can feel like they're using a placeholder image they've found on Google Images instead of something specifically created for the scene. This is also particularly noticable towards the end. I also have a few gripes with the finer game design - In general I think the ideas behind the game are good, but the execution is not quite there.

Terrible. Nearly all art is bad AI. The plot feels written by AI and I only felt this game about maybe one other visual novel. Plot was overly confusing. I’m not sure if I got the ending or if the game crashed. I just uninstalled it after that. Just dreadfully boring.

I like the concept of it and how its going, but unfortunate it has a lot of ai stuff that may doesn't give you the best experience may you have, like it would be cooler and of course better if the art wasn't so ai like that, but in general I liked the the game
