About Kill the Man in the House

Kill the Man in the House is a game about killing a man in a house. This single-player, first-person tactical shooter provides a sandbox for engaging, visceral combat. It features a variety of small, semi-open world maps with houses to kill the man in, and a selection of weapons to kill him with. Blast him from across the map with the sniper rifle or rip him apart up close in a slow-motion SMG gunfight–it’s up to you. The world allows for a variety of playstyles, providing multiple routes with an emphasis on verticality.

Kind-of an "inch deep but a mile wide" situation. The gameplay and aesthetic are both great, and the levels have plenty of ways to approach them. With a game called "Kill the Man in the House" you'd have to braindead to not know what the objective of the game is, but there are several places to start on each level, and plenty of routes and ways of doing the deed. Unfortunately, the game is pretty shallow of content currently, but that's not unusual for games in the genre like Pigface, that has added content, levels, and mechanics over time. Right now it has 5 levels besides the tutorial, and the main objectives are to get an achievement for killing the man in the house in each location with each weapon, an achievement for each. While still really fun, the game could use more levels, difficulties, maybe a leaderboard for times? Also....WHY am i killing the man in the house?? Regardless, the game is really fun.

I played the original demo around when it came out. I have waited three years for this game and it was worth it.

Damn, this is a lot of fun. The visual style is neat, and I appreciate it as a fan of the early 3D look, but it doesn't do much to separate KtMitH from the rest of the recent crop of surreal low-poly shooters. But once you actually get into the game and start romping around, *boy* is it a good time. The movement, physics, and gunfeel are excellent. Great flow, fast reloads, no fall damage. The game is clearly designed for speedrunning but it's also a lot of fun to take your time clearing enemies and exploring different routes through the level. I'm torn on whether the default movement speed feels exactly right; it's fine most of the time, but there are moments when I wish I could traverse the map a little quicker. Maybe we get a speed-boost pickup down the line? The description specifies an "emphasis on verticality" and that ends up being a bigger draw than I'd anticipated. The dev did some real cool map design around climbing to higher vantages. I'd love to see future levels that really lean into this element, along with some of the more abstract and dreamlike architecture. Make us scale a big weird tower! And maybe some more intricate platforming to take full advantage of the tr…

Fun game if you like Cruelty Squad/Sniper Elite style gameplay. Drop into a large map with multiple routes through. The demo penthouse level really shows that off if you're on the fence. I mostly played on Steam Deck and the first two levels ran great. On the penthouse level I had to lower some graphics settings and then it was smooth as well. Menus required the touchscreen to navigate. I hope the game gets full gamepad support soon. Otherwise, the gameplay is fun, guns are satisfying, and the variety of ways to approach levels is great.

decent, some levels running very poorly for me, like even with low settings i'd cap 15/20 fps. it's fun but i kinda wish it had an actual story, context and worldbuilding, what is there is very thin. the exploration and open levels make up for it though, it's fun. i'd wait for more though
