About Kingsvein

All contact with the city of Kingsvein has been lost. As Wisp Slayer, your role is to investigate and exterminate whatever evil lurks there.
  • Adventure through the castle and its outer reaches as you see fit - secret treasures and skulking beasts hide around every corner!
  • Dynamic, deep, and challenging tactical combat - toss your enemies into spikes then electrify their blood, or cover the battlefield in flames
  • Customize your team by mixing and matching 16 different classes, each with upgradeable abilities and equippable passives
  • Use your abilities to explore - freeze rivers with your magic, blast through cave walls, and throw chains to topple statues
  • Ride your loyal steed in and out of combat, and train it to be as fierce as any Knight
  • Set in the realm of Graven, a weird subterranean world of living soil and half-stone Diecast
  • From the maker of the highly-rated Horizon's Gate, Voidspire Tactics and Alvora Tactics

Yet another game that the devs believe everyone has super eyesight or play on low res or sit within inches of their monitor. No text size slider. Refunded.

For anyone looking for a good tactical RPG, this game is fantastic. The gameplay is great with lots of potential builds, itemization, and the balance in terms of having challenge but not needing to grind has been fantastic. Add to that great music, pixel art and a serviceable story and you have a really amazing indie TRPG. For those who have played other Rad Codex games: My only other Rad Codex game for reference is Horizon's Gate and I don't agree with those who find that game better. Kingsvein feels like Horizon's Gate stripped of all the fat and half-baked systems. If you enjoyed the trading, sailing, and port investment of Horizon's Gate that isn't in Kingsvein; which I think is a good thing. Kingsvein offers a purer, more distilled and better for it gameplay experience IMO.

Nice game for the weekend, interesting mechanic of classes (classic, but looks good), too short, fell not enough :)

As indie SRPGs go this one is a solid bet so long as you are willing to take time learning the system. I do feel as huge fan of the developers last game Horizon's Gate, that is some way Kingvien feel's like a step backward. Still combat is good if a little punishing, I love that spells can effect the environment and be used to solve puzzles out of combat. The music was fine nothing very bad or excellent, It just blended into the experience without calling much attention to itself. The art style was hit or miss for me, on one level it's on brand for the setting and is atmosphereic, other hand it's hard on the eyes and lacks veriaty. TDLR: If you enjoy challenging and tactical SRPGs give this game a try.

For those coming over here from Horizon's Gate and kinda offput with the new game not being open world, don't fret it much. Sure, you don't have as wide a world to explore anymore, and it's not a full and proper free roam, the small part of Graven the game gives you is dense with a lot of fun exploration that it still kinda scratches that itch of going around and discovering things. The visuals and the sprite poses also got a facelift, and so far it helps a lot with giving a lot of charm to a pretty dark (literally) realm. Yes, you also lose access to a lot of cool fantasy races the game previously gave you but the diecast (the race you're obligated to play) is so friggin cool dude I don't even know how to say it. You're a half-rock guy and the customization is pretty nifty visually speaking. It also doesn't really take away that much from gameplay because you get to customize your ride a bit (the wyvern) and you have two additional dudes (retainers, you're a cool rock knight) you also can customize (you also get acquainted with a scurio later, so you still got a bit of Eral with you). And the combat is just soooo much better. Quite a few small but significant changes from Ho…

Nice game, good feeling in the end, a bit of grinding for me, but some interesting moments too. Overall recommendation!
