Light Hunters: Battalion of Darkness is a badly made boardgame/cardgame conversion/mobile app port (the mobile app version of this is free on app stores as "Light Hunters: Duel"). It's converted from a kickstarter card game of the same name. Gameplay consists of selecting a couple of hero cards and then playing through a lightweight, dumbed down version of Magic The Gathering against the AI. You have to play against the AI because there's no human players. There's no human players because this is a bad mobile port of a mediocre tabletop/card game. The AI is punishingly difficult, although perhaps this was in part because I had no idea how to play, because there's not enough in the way of useful tutorials. Also, the game isn't that engaging anyway... the artwork is really lacklustre. Gameplay is, from all accounts, deficient even to the tabletop experience (which permits more players and wider variety of gameplay, making the experience much deeper and more social). There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guaran…

TL;DR: If you like the card game, stay with the card game. This one here is just something else — and not in a good way. As someone who played the actual card game, I can say that this is a whole different game. The only mode possible is 3 on 3 and turns are resolved in an absolute different way. Instead of the heroes taking turns one after another, your whole team is active in the same turn. So you cast spells from a single hand of cards instead of one for each hero and then your turn ends and your opponent gets his turn. Also there is a timer for each turn, that is ridiculously short. I wasn't able to make a single move during my first turn, because the timer ended before I had managed to understand what to do, as everything was so unexpectedly different from the card game I know. Also one thing I found highly irritating is, that after you chose your heroes you have to lock five of their skills, which means that you wont be able to use them. I don't know why, this mechanic just doesn't exist in the card game and it just does not make any sense. Прокачка персонажей и поиск лучшей экипировки стимулируют продолжать играть, а кооперативный режим с друзьями добавляет азарта. Визуально игра приятна, хотя и без особых изысков. С другой стороны, сюжет кажется довольно банальным и предсказуемым, а интерфейс местами перегружен. Монетизация присутствует, но не критична, хотя некоторые вещи, безусловно, проще получить за донат. Главная проблема – игра быстро становится повторяющейся. Сражения, хоть и разнообразные в плане врагов, со временем приедаются из-за ограниченного количества локаций и режимов. В целом, 'Light Hunters: Battalion of Darkness' – неплохой вариант для любителей динамичных экшн-RPG, особенно если есть возможность играть с друзьями. Но стоит быть готовым к монотонности и не рассчитывать на захватывающий сюжет. Оценка: 7 из 10.
