Mariposa (2025)

Game took me about an hour and a half to get through, enjoyed it on the whole even if there is a layer of polish I would have liked to see. It's free tho so, TLDR, if you like 2D puzzle platformers, give it a try. Puzzles are pretty good. The UI design is nice hand-drawn stuff that's clear enough to discern, though the tiles didn't feel that great to drag and drop, I had to drag and drop certain tiles multiple times to make slot in properly. It's a little thing but it can go a long way for gameplay immersion. It was a little confusing where I was suppossed to click when starting the wire puzzle; maybe just a visual indicator of where exactly on the color sticks I'm suppossed to click would help. Platforming is decent, especially when I used my Dualshock 4 for playing. There is a steep jump in difficulty near the end which I was not anticipating but I enjoyed the challenge. The lack of distinct character animations for platforming does make the game feel a bit floaty in those sections, especially the wall jumping sections. Mari lowkey bad as hell

A nice little game! I like the concept and the way you can switch between Mariposa and Beepo to complete different tasks!

This was a nice little game!! I loved the art especially. Plus, it's just a really cool premise. The switches between the Utopia and Catastrophe timelines were well done, too. I had a little bit of trouble with the block puzzle? For some reason, the pieces wouldn't click in place in my first few attempts. I had to quit the game and redo the level, and then it worked mostly okay...but the box section didn't disappear until it switched out of the Utopia timeline, so I missed a bit of dialogue with someone. If there was more to this game, I'd definitely continue playing!! The story concept was so interesting. I had a lot of fun!! Thank you :D

All in all, Mariposa is a fun game - it just needs a bit more polish. Not in graphics or audio (those are actually very enjoyable!), but in the intro and story flow. You'll definitely want to watch the video on the Steam page first, as it helps make sense of what's going on once you're dropped into the game. Gameplay-wise, the controls are simple enough, but if you forget the keys... good luck So, take a quick screenshot or jot them down. Hopefully, the dev can add a small update with control hints or a settings menu reference. That said, I'm really surprised this lovely indie game doesn't have more reviews - it deserves more attention. I'm genuinely enjoying it a lot!
