About Mencia. A never was tale.

Mencia. A never was tale is a rogue like 2D platforms desing to be difficult.

This game tells us about Mencia's story, as well as Pinchur. In the Late Middle Age, Pinchur, the protective magic sword of the reign, searchs desperately for a brave and strong man who is capable of facing a long lasting battle againts an alien invasion which have destroyed everything that were on their way. The only person alive in the whole reign is Mencia, a little girl who spends her time in taking care of animals and harvesting the crops, she is the chosen one, by process of elimination, like the saviour of the reign.

Guided by the magic sword, not by own will, Mencia will have to make her way through 4 levels, helped by the teletransportation power of the sword, facing all kind of different traps and aliens who have the intention of turning everything in front of them into squares until reaching their leader. Also "squared", of course.

Breath in, Mencia. You can do it.

You will be able to play "Mencia: A never was tale" with not only keyboard and mouse, but controller as well. The controls are simple, jump, attack, throw the sword and teleport next to it, but the speedness and need to combine these movements will make this game a challenge out of it.
¡Careful! If you turn into a square you must start over again.

This game has been developed by Timber Films in colaboration with the students of the 3D Animation, Games and Interactive Enviroments grade of the Higher Vocational Training of Camara de Comercio de Sevilla Center.

Review and indepth critiques of the game here: https://youtu.be/9i7nxFXXR0I There's a ton of critiques I have for this game so I might miss some that are in the video. I know this is a student made project and the concept itself is fantastic, but what is so frustrating about this game is it feels like it wasn't play tested at all or the team didn't take the player into account at all in terms of quality of life and it sucks because the game feels smooth, but they pile so many small issues on that it makes the game unfun. The sword should follow your mouse not the A>D Key you rarely if at all use the A>D key since jumping is your primary form of movement so the sword naturally should follow your mouse not just when you're right clicking. If you get hit while you have invincibility frames you can not swing your sword which killing enemies is your way to refresh your jumps so if you get hit over a chasm you're dead and have to start over. The MAIN problem with this game is the creators don't have a level select/continue system if you die from falling which is instant or get hit twice you have to start over from the beginning which ruins the game this is not the 1980s/90s where compan…

Quite a funny little student project. The core mechanic is pretty unique, but you only have 2 lives to reach the end, so die'n retry haters my not like it.

"Mencia. A never was tale." is a student project from Campus Cámara de Sevilla. One of the first things students should be taught in game development is that 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid 1990's with dedicated 3D cards like the Voodoo3 and the ATI Rage. But the students were deliberately mistaught that it's okay to release obsolete 2D games in the 3D era of gaming... certainly any professional developer seeing a prospective new hire who doesn't even know about 3D gaming probably isn't going to give them a job. The students made a medicore 2D retro platformer brawler where you play a little girl with a magic sword and you do some procedurally generated, low quality platforming and brawling to save the world from aliens. Whatever. I'm pretty sure none of the students passed. It might make the students feel good about themselves to get this published on Steam Direct (even if no gamers actually wanted it), but this has no benefit for us PC gamers. We have to question the value of institutions flooding the store with low quality 2D video game homework assignments while gamers wade through this stuff to find professionally made 3D games. So this looks like an old 1990's A…

The gameplay isn't very fun and the sword keeps killing you at the start with all of his talking.
