The game begins from a first person perspective, with what appears to be a kid who simply wants to play a video game. However, once the cartridge is inserted and the console is turned on, a hand smashes through the screen and pulls the kid into the game. Before you get any explanation of what is happening, you take control of Sleepy, the main character, who just wants to go back to bed. The opening area introduces the basic mechanics, which follow the usual platforming formula. You can move around, jump to considerable heights, and automatically grab onto edges when pushing against them, making platforming more forgiving and ensuring that every jump doesn't have to be perfectly timed. Almost every other action consumes stamina, but it regenerates quickly. Stamina also decreases when you fall into water or other liquids. If you don't swim and jump out in time, you'll eventually be pulled underwater and die. Another useful ability is grabbing, which lets you pick up various small objects and either throw them or perform a specific action with them. Worth playing for “Lost in Dreams” alone. The song hits slightly off tone like the Control games with their “unique” song thrown in the memorable moments. In a good surreal way. Devin on Apple Music too. Game itself I’d say 4 out of 5.
