Night Of The Abattoir Man is a compact survival horror adventure that embraces the rough charm of retro games while drawing heavily from the exaggerated personality of classic slasher movies. Developed by Diogo Marques and published by CanvaSoft Publications, the game uses a deliberately old-fashioned presentation inspired by RPG Maker horror, early computer games, anime, and genre films from the 1980s and 1990s. Rather than depending on realistic graphics or complicated combat systems, it focuses on exploration, puzzles, pursuit, grotesque imagery, secrets, and the constant pressure of being hunted by an enemy far more powerful than the protagonist. The result is an unusual horror experience that combines genuine danger with an intentionally campy attitude. The story centers on Michael D'Amato, a 23-year-old college graduate from Naples, Italy, who travels to New York expecting to participate in a horror movie being produced by his uncle. Murder man go brrrrr.

As someone who has played every rpgmaker horror game they can get their mitts on, I have to label this as one of the diamonds in the rough. In a medium that has all the opportunity to fall flat, this game does anything but. Multiple endings, characters that you learn to endear (even if it's post game), and not-so subtle nods to horror staples, and those who we enjoyed watching play games similar to this growing up. As someone who enjoys Achievements, the ones that this game provides is a nice touch that enhances the difficultly, or encourages you to enjoy all that this game has to offer (My personal hell grinding achievements in this game, however, was the fishing minigame. Patience is a virtue, and one that I consistently lack.) Adored the retro build of the game, the art was wonderful, if you have a head on your shoulders (unless Trevor got to you in the midst of reading this), Play this game! 14 or so hours spent playing this, 10 rat weilding knives out of 10!
