Nightmare Game (噩梦游戏)

This game should be named: Infinite walking simulator Next time don't try to make the game little longer by force.

One of the worst walking simulators I've ever played, and I usually enjoy the genre.

Nightmare Game (噩梦游戏) is a tedious, badly translated e-book/adventure game hybrid. It's barely a game... you march around a 2D retro pixel environment, moving left and right, until you trigger endless e-book "visual novel" sequences, thanks to Google Translate, which you have to click your mouse button endlessly to skip through line after line of craptastic badly written dialogue. Does that sound like fun to you? Yeah, it's not. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic low quality art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the mediocre 2D visuals. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards …

Back at it with the Steam deep dives! Nightmare Game was described by my usual steam diving audience as "[...] like all of that genre rolled into one.", so if you understand what that means, you pretty much know everything you'll need to should you decide to play it. A lot of bad reviews on this game talk about the length, and I can't blame them- There comes a point where you find yourself doing nothing but walking- into a room, out of a room, from one area to the next, and repeat. You will watch the same events happen over and over- and for the most part, you won't get any new experience out of seeing them from a new POV. The English translation is.... Bad. The dialogue leaves a lot to be desired and stops being funny after enough repetition. This is one of those games you mute, as well- royalty free music, however nice, gets old after long enough. You've definitely heard the one used here if you frequent rpgmaker games. You will get sick of almost everything happening by about the 4th playthrough- Anything relevant to the 'plot' starts at the sixth.
