Noob Squad, developed and published by Antonio Renna, is a first-person shooter that attempts to offer a classic multiplayer combat experience but ultimately struggles to find a coherent identity or lasting appeal. At first glance, it presents itself as a straightforward competitive shooter where players can choose between different classes and engage in various match types like team deathmatch, free-for-all, and capture the flag. It appears to take inspiration from popular military shooters but delivers the concept in an extremely stripped-down and unrefined manner. What could have been a compact indie take on large-scale shooters instead feels like an experiment left incomplete, with its mechanics and presentation lacking the depth or polish needed to sustain player interest for long. Once inside the game, the simplicity of its structure becomes evident. There are a handful of character classes—typically assault, recon, and engineer—each armed with distinct weapon sets that should, in theory, encourage different playstyles.
