God Mode

I have officially achieved something that should probably qualify as either a scientific experiment or a psychiatric evaluation. I spent OVER TWENTY-FOUR HOURS playing God Mode. Now here's the tiny little detail that'll make your brain do a backflip. This game... isn't even sold anymore. It's a multiplayer-only game. From 2013. And the player count? Let's just say if I had found one single ant running around the servers, I would've invited it to my friends list. The place was deader than my hopes of getting a tax refund from Thanos. I wasn't matchmaking. I was conducting paranormal investigations. Every lobby felt like opening the door to an abandoned shopping mall at 3 AM. Echoes. Silence. Occasionally my own footsteps judging me. Steam basically looked me dead in the eyes and said: "Buddy... everyone else left a decade ago." And my response? "Nah. I'd still like another match." WITH WHO, WADE?! THE GHOST OF A 2013 SERVER ADMIN? I have become so astronomically dedicated to this forgotten relic that if someone else had randomly joined, I probably would've hugged them through the monitor and shouted, "YOU'RE REAL! YOU EXIST!" I do like this game, I just wish it'd run properly on this PC. Ran wonderfully back in the day prior to W11, now I get error exceptions. Cannot alt-tab out, cannot control+alt+delete to get task manager (have to sign out of profile to close the game) to force close because game somehow takes priority over task manager AND error prompt. Would recommend on older hardware.

It was genuinely fun, chaotic, and had a great sense of style. It’s a shame that the game was removed from Steam, especially for players who still remember it fondly. The gameplay was simple enough to pick up but entertaining enough to keep coming back to. It had that old-school co-op feel where the best moments came from playing with friends and just messing around. It’s unfortunate that newer players can’t easily experience it anymore. God Mode may not have been perfect, but it was a memorable game and one I’m glad I got to play. Definitely deserves to be remembered. Rating: 6/10
