Imagine a game that throws you into a chaotic, trap-infested nightmare, strips you of all weapons, and tells you to "just deal with it." That’s Obsta-Loop in a nutshell—a 2D platformer that’s equal parts goofy and soul-crushing. At first glance, you might think this is just another indie platformer with a quirky personality. Oh, how wrong you’d be. The moment you step into its pixelated hellscape, you realize Obsta-Loop is not here to make friends. With its one-hit-kill permadeath system, this game forces you to play like a speedrunner on caffeine—memorizing trap placements, mastering movement, and questioning every life choice that led you here. But the brutality is only half the fun. The other half? The sheer absurdity of it all. Whether it’s the juvenile humor (yes, there are farts), the comically over-the-top blood splatters, or the ridiculous ways you’ll die for the 47th time, Obsta-Loop never takes itself too seriously. The non-linear level design and hidden paths give you the illusion of choice before you inevitably screw up anyway. Power-ups? Yes, they exist. But they’re not here to make your life easier—they just give you new ways to maybe not die for a few extra second…

"Obsta-Loop" is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. While at face value this looks like every other garbage amateur pixelcrap platformer on Steam that nobody wanted, there's a difference. This is based loosely on an ancient NES platformer that nobody wanted. Well, that was quite a journey. Anyway, taking this at face value it's one of the worst 2D retro pixel platformers on Steam, you control some platypus thing and avoid spikes, except the developer didn't bother actually finishing the game... because nobody wanted it. Thanks, Steam Direct. Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, while it doesn't have an upfront cost, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. The developers abandoned this 12 months ago. It will never be completed. This unfinished game is just polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to…
