Oh man. Fck this game. I really liked it first. The art style is good, and the fights are chaotic. It is more like a souls-like than a roguelike, as you lose some of your stuff that you can get back if you go back where you died and finish that segment. But, and it is a big BUT. The game is broken. Tracking the Spark quest is bugged at least for me and some others. Some find a solution, but I didn't. It is game-breaking. I'm really mad. I finished 80% of the game, and I can't do the last 20%. If I could, I would double thumbs down on this1 found this helpful
Original Journey from Bonfire Entertainment is an unexpected gem that successfully blends classic 2D shoot 'em up action with roguelike elements and a surprisingly deep narrative, all wrapped in a breathtakingly unique art style. It is a game that truly works its charm on you the moment you pick up the controller. A Feast for the Eyes: The Breathtaking Art Style The game's visuals are its most immediate selling point. Utilizing a hand-drawn black and white art style with occasional, deliberate splashes of color—green for allies, red for enemies—the game achieves a striking, almost pencil-sketch aesthetic that is both beautiful and unique. This graphic choice gives the game a distinct personality, reminiscent of a classic storybook come to life, and ensures that every new alien environment on Planet Shadow is a wonder to behold. Engaging Gameplay and Customization While the art might draw you in, the gameplay keeps you hooked. Original Journey offers solid twin-stick shooting mechanics that are easy to learn but difficult to master. The game excels in the tension between exploring the ever-changing, procedurally generated levels and the risk of losing your accumulated loot, a ba…1 found this helpful
Original Journey, developed by Bonfire Entertainment and published by Another Indie, is an ambitious and visually distinct 2D action game that combines elements of platforming, shooting, and roguelite progression into a hand-drawn science fiction adventure. It presents a world both strange and melancholic, where you play as a member of the Ato, a race of sentient plant-like beings who set out to the mysterious Planet Shadow in hopes of finding an artifact that can save their dying home world. What follows is a journey that balances whimsy and gloom, wrapped in a sketchbook aesthetic that immediately sets it apart from the usual indie action fare. From its art style to its tone, the game strives to blend charm and sorrow into a tale of survival, ambition, and quiet desperation. The first thing that stands out about Original Journey is its visual design. Every environment, enemy, and character is drawn in a monochrome pencil-sketch style, accented occasionally with subtle shades of color to highlight important features like energy or weapon effects. The result is an aesthetic that feels raw and organic, as though the world itself was scribbled into being by the protagonist’s imagina…
