✦ AI summary

Paper Wizards has an interesting spell-crafting concept with appealing art style, but suffers from significant technical issues and polish problems that severely hamper the experience. Players report numerous bugs including non-functional spells, inconsistent damage mechanics, and unclear visual feedback, making the game feel unfinished and unbalanced. While some see potential in the core gameplay loop, most agree the game needs substantial work before it's ready for release.

boring gameplay, bad sound design, unimpactful attacks, no visual feedback for dealing or taking damage, obtuse spell designing. i like the art style and the boob wizard tho

"Paper Wizards" is a badly made, bug riddled tech demo that comes across as someone's unfinished homework assignment. It's a simple FPS arena shooter where you should some billboarded monster assets with far-too-high TTK... there's no balance or polish done here. That lack of polish comes out pretty quick when you see just how bug riddled and unstable the game is. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. The graphics aren't great, very basic 2d billboarded monster assets and low poly cartoony backdrops of very low quality. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromi…

The crystal system doesn't work. Also it probably shouldn't be there in the first place. Half the attacks from the player spells and the enemy attacks don't even do any damage. Half the spells don't even shoot a projectile in the first place! This isn't shouldn't be released yet. There are SO many bugs it's impossible to play! Throw it back in the oven because it needs so much more work done on it. It's a good idea it's just executed incredibly poorly.

I was iffy about this game when I first opened it. Then I started exploring the start a little, seeing what the npcs do. I see that people that made reviews were upset about the balance of the first spell, makes sense, but you start with 10 gems, that is more than enough to make a spell that can easily get you through a few levels. I spent most of time experimenting with the spells. But after nearly an hour of game-play I can easily say this decent with lotsof potential to be more. Just needs more content and more difficulty.
