About Protocol Five
Protocol Five is a story-driven surreal horror adventure. Trapped in a distorted world following a mysterious experiment, you must find your way to freedom with the help of your colleague. You are an expert who knows Protocol 5 very well and you know that it can solve the problem, but you also know that it should never be used.
Gameplay:
The game is heavily focused on narrative, alternating dialogues with simple challenges and puzzles. In the second part of the game, you will receive a gun and face more action-packed survival horror sections. Some dialogues will allow you to make philosophical choices that will irremediably change the course of the story, leading you to one of 5 possible endings.
Duration:
The main path can be completed in 2-4 hours, each alternate path has unique gameplay elements not present in the other paths and is complementary to the narrative and overall experience.
Theme:
The game explores themes of philosophical choices regarding eternity, using a minimalist style. The difficulty is not high, aiming to offer a surreal experience through dialogues.
Performance:
Developed by one person with Unreal Engine, it targets 60fps at 1080p at the high-quality setting, with options to reduce quality and increase fps on older hardware.
You will find yourself in a distorted world, populated by disgusting creatures who want to kill you..
You will have to avoid being killed, flee or fight..
As you overcome environmental challenges and advance the plot..
Your philosophical choices will lead you to one of 5 possible endings..

It is definitely a janky indie game, but it is way better than the handful of reviews portray. Performance was rough so I lowered the graphics setting and still had a couple crashes, but certainly playable (Unreal Engine). It is a semi-surreal semi-horror puzzle game with very light platforming and some shooting elements later on. There are several endings throughout the story and at least 2 final endings. It definitely has a "B movie" quality to it especially in the writing, that to someone like me, comes off as pretty humorous. The story was engaging enough to drive around 4+ hours of gameplay. I played it all the way through without a guide or confusion over a puzzle's mechanics. It has heaps of achievements that are rewarding to earn and also there's a level select to go back and easily see alternate endings/ do a completionist clean-up. Overall, for less than $2 on sale, I had a great afternoon, and will eventually go back for the achievements.26 found this helpful
As of writing this Protocol Five review, I've only done the "Guardian" ending/route, so that's the content I can speak for. I've been granted a key through my curator page, but decided I should post the review on my personal profile instead as it's not very close to the games its followers are looking for. The game is alright as long as you're willing to endure freshman game design in exchange of some laughs with friends. This might not be what the developer was aiming for, but it's still a kind of title I enjoy going through every now and then. If you like exploring weird stuff on Itch.io like I do and don't mind a few hiccups, you're probably going to have a good time with this.2 found this helpful
Its so dark even i have flashlight and player so slow we cannot escape from creature easily. At least we could configure the gamma settings. Character's length and doors not the same but when we entered the door, char's length was like decreasin. Its surrealist but not always. Story is mystery but gameplaying is so annoying. It needs more uptade. Btw Find The Key better than this game. At least we could escape from enemies. Challengin was more acceptable.2 found this helpful
this game is nothing but hallways and worthless conversations.1 found this helpful
you need to close an enemy out but he clips through the doors
I was enjoyin' this up until the chase bit with the crawlers. Those chase segments straight up annoyed me. I'd have been fine with a straight up walking simulator.I do think it could've used voice overs. Besides all of that, I do think that the game is interestin'. The fact that it has different endings adds to the replayability. For the price tag may as well check it out. Gameplay Impressions: https://youtu.be/wE7oyESTCZY
