About Rat Racer

Rat Racer is a physics-based car simulation. This is not a typical arcade game - everything is calculated in real time by the Nvidia PhysX engine, so the drive model is more difficult to learn at the beginning, but it gives you much more satisfaction when you master it over time.

All tracks are "virtual sandboxes" where you can drive everywhere and do anything what your car physics allows. All collisions, jumps, spins are unique due to real time physics and such environment.

How to start:

The game is hard - on the first try don't push the throttle to the max - just go as slow as possible throughout the first lap to feel the car reactions and then gradually speed up on next laps. Watch out for the driver - if you drive too aggressively it may fall out of the car due to stronger forces. Also, if you didn't care about the engine it can sometimes catch fire - in both cases you have to wait a few seconds.

Due to physical nature of the game it's easy to stuck somewhere - in such case don't move for few seconds - you will be respawned.

There are many random things which make the racing different every time - AI can sometimes miss the checkpoints so you never know who will win. Car engines can have a failures. The boxes on the road are filled with random stuff - you never knows if it's safe to collide with. The drone-like camera sometimes look at weird angles so you cannot clearly see your position. Some of the track locations are covered by obstructions so you need to use your intuition when your car is not visible for few seconds. There are no bounds on track so beware of the edges - or force your opponent to drive there!

Tips and tricks:

  • When you are in air release your throttle - the landing will be safer
  • When your car jumps with slight rotation - align your front wheels with flying direction to land safely
  • When your car spins - tame every ground contact by handbrake - it may help to loose velocity and may prevent your driver from falling out of the car
  • Some of the cars are using freewheel - it's technology from older cars like Saab or Trabant where car does not use engine to brake - that means when you release your throttle the car is still going until you press brake!

We plan to release this game with 8 race tracks and 8 cars. There will be also Early Acces release which will contain 1 car and 1 track.

Have fun & be stronk!

Peak rat experience, can't wait for you to add more of them. Saw your poster on a balcony, keep it there, it's amazing, thx

This game has a lot of potential for sure but right now it feels like an Alpha version. My main issue is the camera. I cannot recommend buying it now (4-4-2024) until and if it ever gets updated.

The cars are really fun to drive, you truly feel like a rat driving a motorized RC car for the 1st time lol. A Really fun and funny early access title with a lot of potential to be expanded upon. I’d like to see an elimination mode for example, when the objective is to take out the other Rat by trying to crash into him or make them crash 5 or however many times to win. And goes without saying but more tracks! Only complaint is I can’t give my rats little hats and cigarettes to smoke as they drive, and that the rats don’t do tom and Jerry esk screams when crashing or falling off the track. Excited for the future of this game! Recommended!

Fun little game to goof around with for a couple hours, sad to see that nothing has been updated since the April update of 2024 but it's something fun if you want to try steam remote play against a friend.

A very good top-down racing game. The cars have very nice simcade handling. I hope there will be a more expensive sequel with a fleshed out campaign at some point.

Update- Wow, boy am I dumb! I didn’t even talk about why I liked this so much, so here are a few quick bullet points. -Graphics and animation are really good, I’d say 8/10 -Frame rate and resolution are super crisp and smooth -Controls, probably my favorite part. It’s been a while since I’ve played with an R/C car, but this is exactly what I remember it feeling like. -Difficulty, it’s hard, but in a good way. This isn’t Mario Kart, where you can hold down the gas from start to finish, you have to use strategy when you’re playing, I can’t think of another racing game like this, but I’m a little annoyed that more games don’t do it regularly! -Length, this is the only downside that I can see. From what I can see, there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of options/tracks, but maybe I haven’t unlocked them? Hopefully this game sees a long life, and a campaign, and different modes get added. I never want to stop playing this, so let’s all cross our fingers! I usually try not to leave reviews until I’m pretty sure I’ve seen most of the game, or played a couple of hours. But when I find something that really stands out, and feel like I want to live in the game within the first few mome…
