About Rod of Asclepius

Heal, investigate, and endure in Late Antiquity.

Rod of Asclepius is a historical RPG set in 4th-century Pannonia Secunda. You play a Roman medicus (doctor); diagnosing illnesses, gathering herbs, performing treatments, and making difficult calls as war and disease reshape everyday life. Your choices carry weight: patients remember, communities talk, and your reputation follows you.

What to expect

  • Authentic historical setting — Explore archaeologically researched Roman locations, customs, and medical practice.
  • Turn-based medical procedures — From surgery to remedies and aftercare, success depends on skill and judgment.
  • Resource management — Collect tools, medicinal plants, and rare ingredients to craft life-saving treatments.
  • Isometric 2.5D — A distinctive aesthetic that brings Late Antiquity to life.
  • Investigation and diagnosis — Question patients, read symptoms, and untangle medical mysteries.
  • Morality and reputation — Your ethics shape how people treat you; and who will trust you.
Can you survive as a healer in a collapsing empire?

Set on the frontiers of Rome, you play as a doctor, practicing ancient medicine. Up front, I have to say that this is the best written game I've ever played, with prose that sings like Apollo's lyre. This game gives a glorious glimpse into regular Roman living. The 3D modeling and real time lighting ooze retro style charm while being reasonably modern. Its a history lesson and a work of art you can explore. 5/5 sushi rolls.

Really enjoyed my time with this one. It's a bit janky and the UI could use some work, but it's an interesting little game with some cool ideas that's definitely worth checking out. :)

Janky little game. Has some charm in it. Right now the game feels more like a demo, would like to see more updates in the future. Negative side: Stutters too much. Seems like not everything is unlockable, like some materials can't be found for crafting cards, which means some achievements can not be done. Herbs seems to not have any use as of now other than turning for quest. Can't sell excessive herbs for money. Can't figure out how to heal if you take damage.

Quaint little game. It's a little janky, but I'm curious for next chapter.
