Salammbô: Battle for Carthage is praised by fans for its unique artistic style, atmospheric world-building, engaging story of political intrigue, and clever puzzles that create an immersive dark experience despite its 2002 age. However, players frequently complain about dated graphics, technical compatibility issues, and particularly poor navigation systems that make orientation tedious and frustrating, with some feeling the game needs map improvements and updates to remain playable.
Interesting & strange game. Sometimes it has scary music & moments.3 found this helpful
Salammbo: Battle for Carthage is a 2002 game based on a historical Mercenary War and a book telling this story. Our main character Spendius for example is an actual historical figure with a very different outcome. Game is VERY old and VERY dated in terms of graphics. Have some technical problems. This is a point and click adventure game which you look around 360 and interect with objects and try to solve puzzles and progress the story. ++Setting: It has a strange and different art design and added fantasy fiction to a real event. The narrator adds quite a bit to the story. And you really want to know how events are going to unfold because it involves lots of duplicity, betreyal and war. +Gameplay : It's a point and click and have minimal dialog options, however, on critical events and on your deaths a narrator tells your story. You can die in quite a lot ways but because of this feature discovering them didn't felt bad. I liked this :D. On these moments also a comic like panels are shown which is quite original in my opinon. There are some battles, resolves according to your choices and are again told by narrator, These are fine. Other than that its simple adventure. -Tech…2 found this helpful

Loosely based on the world of Gustave Flaubert’s work and visually influenced by the striking style of Philippe Druillet, the game transports players to a version of ancient Carthage that feels less like a strict historical recreation and more like a vivid, dreamlike interpretation of the era. You step into the role of Spendius, a slave navigating a city on the brink of collapse after the First Punic War, and what begins as a simple task gradually unfolds into a much larger journey through political intrigue, conflict, and survival. The gameplay follows a traditional first-person, point-and-click format that will feel familiar to fans of classic adventure titles. Movement is handled through static, pre-rendered environments, where players explore, interact with objects, and solve puzzles to progress. The pacing is deliberate, encouraging careful observation and methodical thinking rather than quick reactions. Puzzles range from …1 found this helpful
this is the only game that lets you eat shoes
A well made game still fun to play. brain teasing puzzles great dialogues and dark immersive game environment. Push updates to fix compatibility issues and keep this piece of art alive
Maybe with at least a working map this could have been interesting. In this poor state, already orientation becomes tedious and frustrating.
