Santa Elena

I love how Santa Elena gives its own twist on the usual formula most RPGs take - battles aren't 1-3 turn bursts of actions, but rather a marathon. Facing dozens and dozens of soldiers at once, while keeping track of enemies resistances, your allies' health bars and your own resources, can and will be overwhelming at first, but becomes the crux of the game's combat system, and in a way kinda mimick Elena's journey of ceaseless marching foward towards revolution. Mad props to the kaballah system for being one of the coolest magic systems I've seen — thematically evoking an religious aspect that I wish I'd seen more in more games, and mechanically engaging enough to garnish some skill expression in higher levels of play. Highly recommend!

An extremely excellent game, especially considering it's free and the first game published to steam by this developer The gameplay definitely takes a back seat to story and presentation, that being said they really do manage to make gameplay express the feeling of the story. The only critique I will make of it is that look up spells can kind of break the flow of combat The presentation and story are extremely excellent though, if you like nier you will probably like this game Translation is a little rough at point but it never is enough of a problem to break immersion, and in some cases it even makes me feel the difference between our world and the one of this game TLDR this is the sort of game that would show up in a Jack Geller video TLDR

"Santa Elena" is an unusual but genuinely made narrative driven RPG-lite that conveys a somewhat supernaturally inspired narrative about a woman named Elena in a revolution against the Duke of Monte Branco. What do you do in the game? Read through some rather mediocre e-book/visual novel fan-fiction then partake in a novel yet unrewarding endurance (yours) based RPG combat system. The graphics aren't great, some mostly static 3D backdrops with low quality billboarded 2d pixelcrap sprites. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. Insultingly, the developer insists that you should play this with a console peasant children's toy gamepad instead of KB+M. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're designing games for. It's the responsibility of the developer to ensure the game runs well on the platform they're selling it on, with the primary peripherals that PC gamers use. Now on t…
