Scoop 'n Shoot is such a ridiculous combination of ideas that I could not help but enjoy it. I play as a wizard's apprentice who has inherited an ice cream shop while also being responsible for protecting magical crystals from an evil mage and his minions. Instead of simply serving customers, I have to grow magical plants, turn them into ice cream flavors and then use those creations as weapons. The gameplay is split between growing ingredients and fighting enemies, and I liked how directly the two systems connect. Different plants produce different flavors, and each flavor has its own elemental power that works better against certain enemies. That gives the gardening side of the game an actual purpose rather than making it feel like a completely separate activity. The shooting is surprisingly entertaining in VR. I use magical ice cream along with a weapon to defend the shop, and the physical nature of the controls makes the battles more active than a normal shooter. I enjoyed aiming, throwing and reacting to enemies as they approached, especially when I had to think about which elemental flavor would be most useful. The colorful fantasy presentation is probably my favorite part…
