About Semblance

Semblance is an innovative platformer with deformable terrain, set in a beautiful minimalist world. It’s a game that asks, what if you could deform and reshape the world itself? Semblance takes the idea of a ‘platform’ in a platformer and turns it on its head. What if platforms were actually part of the gameplay, part of the way you solved problems?

Explore a world where the default is soft, where the property of 'hardness' doesn't exist. Each of the game's three worlds explore a new consequence of a planet that can shift, change and deform. Beat back the strange, crystalline infection of hard material by freeing the world's life essences and uncover the dark cause for its appearance
  • Unique and innovative deforming platform gameplay:
Can’t reach a collectible? Just deform and elevate a piece of the ground so that the point you jump from is higher. Nasty spikes in the way? Just deform and push-down the ground lower so that you can pass by. Squish, bounce, squash and transform the world- and yourself to solve problems.
  • Beautiful Minimalist Aesthetic Design:
Explore 3 worlds bursting with colorful minimalist charm, quirky critters, and calming vistas. Become hypnotized by each world's dynamically layered score, each with a hint of African aural distinction.
  • Explore non-linearly
The game allows you to move between puzzles as you wish, never forcing you to find a solution in order to progress and enabling you to come back later. Similarly, the game's narrative is presented expansively, allowing you to explore- and piece together the story for yourself as you roam the game.

Semblance is a refreshing take for a puzzle platformer. Shaping environments for platforming works and it feels great. The game adds new twists in each of the 3 worlds, they’re just enough without overwhelming the player. There are between 5 and 6 levels in each world and there is a special final area after all of them are cleared. In terms of collectibles, there are 4 types. Mosquitos which usually require some tricky platforming, art on walls to explain the story, essences that are mandatory to complete the game and shrines, the latter are few in quantity and they’re extra hidden. The style is appealing in terms of visuals but they’re brought to life thanks to the excellent sound effects and music. The music is usually minimalistic but when it’s at the forefront, it’s so good. There are two flaws I’ve noticed. One is not understanding the story at all. As mentioned, the art you can find is supposed to clear things up but it did not work for me. They were very vague, I was also confused about the ending. Granted, it’s not too important for this kind of game but I would at least like to know the basics. And finally, one puzzle maybe two at most felt bullsh*t imo. The solution for…

Very interesting puzzle mechanic where you change the landscape to collect glowy things and free trees from corruption. It has plenty of variety and skills without being overwhelming. Also pretty easy to 100%. Would definitely recommend it if you're into puzzle platformers.

Really creative little puzzle-platformer. The idea of having to shape the platforms was executed well, and despite how short the gane is it had a few different "extras" to this concept, like Lasers that let you use the platforms like catapults and later puzzles where you don't just have to shape the world but also the character you play as. The controls felt a bit finicky at times and could be fine tuned a bit more, there were a few occasions where in my head I had alredy solved the puzzle amd knew what to do but the pulling it off part was the problem because if the controls. Still a fun short experience id reccomend!

What an incredibly unique and clever puzzle game! The world is like nothing I've ever seen before, cute and colorful and charming! The character designs are top notch, the puzzles are all well made and take advantage of the gameplay gimmick to create puzzles completely original from anything else I've seen! Very well made and adorable! 10/10 recommendation from me!

Short easy puzzle game, art style is nice. A few challenging parts but nothing to crazy, just frustrating. can be completed in an afternoon

The game is a bit janky but it's not a big deal. The puzzles aren't that difficult but some require some precise jumps and timing. There are collectibles but not enough indication where to find the ones you missed. This was my third play through (first on Steam), which took me less than 2 hours even though I had forgotten all the puzzles. So it's more about gaining intuition for the abilities and techniques.
