The idea is there, but both the UI and the font choice feel annoying after actually playing the game. The difficulty gap between the tutorial and the first level is somewhat massive, but it may be fine if you're into difficult games. Honestly, I find it is average among free to keep games on Steam. However, as a paid game, it's likely only for very few people who can overlook its issues.

The game all on itself is pretty interesting, yes there are some bad level designs here and there, but the deal breaker for me was the fact that the level select doesn't let you select levels to play, it just shows you on what levels you have got the pearls, and that is what made me create this review (Skip to the end if you don't want to read all) But let's go to when you start the game: when you press the button "new game", it changes the screen and it doesn't show you what to do; at first you think it's loading, but after you wait some minutes, you know something is wrong. I had to go to the tutorial section, thinking it would put me in the tutorial, but it just showed me what buttons I can press to do stuff. -1 point for not going to the tutorial. Shade Silver is a small, straightforward game, that doesn't try to do anything revolutionary, and that's perfectly fit. Shade Silver is a highly ambitious indie dungeon crawler that delivers a compelling retro experience but suffers significantly from a lack of technical polish. On the positive side, the game features a massive layout of 81 unique levels packed with over 50 enemy types, secrets, and clever puzzles wrapped in an atmospheric, "glow-in-the-dark" SNES-era aesthetic. Mastering the tight sprint mechanics to dodge traps and uncover pearls creates a genuinely fun loop that will appeal directly to classic arcade enthusiasts and competitive speedrunners. On the negative side, the underlying execution is noticeably rough around the edges, held back by flawed collision hitboxes that turn its brutal difficulty into artificial frustration. Compounding this, the game suffers from a poorly balanced progression curve where early stages are inexplicably harder than late-game levels, alongside a harsh neon color palette that can become quite straining on the eyes during longer play sessions.

Boring, ugly, and repetitive. The 'glow in the dark' style looks messy, not cool. Same traps, same enemies for 80+ levels. Zero story, clunky controls. Feels like a student project. Even on sale - not worth it.
