Shakedown: Hawaii

Rating ★★★☆☆ (3/5) Empire built on repetition The satire is the star here, poking fun at modern greed with buyable islands, hidden fees, and shady business practices. Building your property empire is addictive at first, and the 16-bit pixel art is charming. Unfortunately, the missions trigger one after another in a constant stream, and most are short, repetitive errands that never evolve. The story is thin, serving mostly as an excuse to unlock more purchases. Once the novelty of buying up the island wears off, there isn't much game left underneath. Worth at a discount.

Shakedown: Hawaii is essentially a 16-bit version of Retro City Rampage. The humor is pretty lacking and the scenarios seem like they are going to be nearly identical to RCR. The spritework and soundtrack are the runaway stars of this game. But given how many core gameplay elements don't seem to have been improved in this spiritual sequel, I'm just going to quit while I'm ahead and play something else.

Really fun chaos simulator

Brilliant. First of all : I played this game on a retroid pcket 6 through gamenative, it runs out of the box, perfectly. Second : This game is what gta2 would be if it was released today. Mechanics, camera and controls are similar, but expanded with modern amenities and conveniences. . A very well executed and polished experience. Third : Atmosphere and humorous storytelling is lightly dark - in just the right way. I was instantly drawn in and was not disappointed, Critique: I ended up completing the game and was hungry for more, leaving me with achievement hunting. The game is solid, and could easily sustain a larger expanded world.
