About ShemHaMephorash

A historical low fantasy strategy game surrounding the Great Game and Golem technology at the end of the 19th century

Long ago, humankind received special grace in the form of "words."
"ShemHaMephorash", which moves clay dolls and gives them miracles, supported civilization.
In addition, the world called and praised the people who manipulated that special power as "Scribe (Rabbi)."

Over the years, humankind has been devoted to battle, just like historical facts, and rabbis has been deeply involved in battle.
That didn't change during the 1878 Afghanistan's war and The Anglo-Russian Great Game.

Now, at the crossroads of civilization,
lead your chosen nation to victory and unravel the mystery hidden in the miraculous language "ShemHaMephorash" while following the stories of the rabbis.

■ Game system
This game is a derivative of the strategy game "Vahrentuga", which consists of a turn-based strategy phase and an RTS-style tactical phase set in the Second Anglo-Afghan War that broke out in 1878.

The purpose of the basic game is to expand your territory and use the income from that territory to take advantage of the battle and keep your army alive until the end of the story.
In addition, you must achieve the victory conditions set for each story.

* At the lowest difficulty level, you can ignore this victory condition.

■ Strategy phase
In the Strategic Phase, you can hire soldiers, select territories to attack, deploy defense forces, and improve territories as use special compartments.
The most important thing in battle is a stable logistics.
Let's prepare the military and domestic affairs suitable for the war situation and steadily grow the power.

■ Tactical phase
In the tactical phase, RTS-style battles that mainly combine four types of infantry, artillery, cavalry, and rabbi are fought.
Your tactics can easily overturn sometimes inferior situations.

■ About operability
Basic operations can be performed with just the mouse and space key,
and in the tactical phase, you can operate each unit while pausing the game at any time.

■ Notes on English translation
The English translation of 6 out of 9 episodes has been completed.
English translations for the remaining three episodes are currently under consideration.

The best Strategy about the Great Game out there. Which isn't saying much since there aren't any games about 19th Century Afghanistan (Paradox Grand Strategies don't count imho). It's very ambitious. What I appreciated was that: -The maps are all handcrafted and feature landmarks (like lakes etc.) that can be seen from the World Map -Because the maps are handcrafted, they have unique designs with points that can be exploited strategically -Because the maps have unique designs, they all feel visually distinct. It's worth mentioning, because almost all the maps are some variation on "Afghanistani Mountains". It takes subtle but hard work to make one mountain look different from another. -Every faction has its own unit roster, that is unique both aesthetically and strategically. (For example: The British Infantry that can be hired from Day 1 features Pashtun Militias (cheap, fast, crowd control), Vampire Golems (cheap, good upgrades), Indian Recruits (???, didn't use), British Marines (expensive, tanky)) -Every unit has 2+ abilities that are (at least situationally) useful. The ability amount can be confusing: British Light Cavalry has 4 different attack skills to choose from. -All a…

I'll write a more detailed review once I get the courage to fully explore this but God I can't stop thinking about it. What a world... Such an unbelievably inspired setting and fun systems. Game is quite hard and requires some save scumming but at the same time finding solutions to seemingly impossible odds is very satisfying. Ultimately the most important thing is, what a world... Soulful...

One of the funnest RTS games I've played. It's like Total War and schizocore Touhou fangames had a baby. You'll have fun, engaging tactical battles where the better strategist wins. You'll have your beautiful engagements shredded by a little anime girl calling down hellfire on your troops. You'll have a huge entrenchment of line infantry and gatling guns battling a swarm of zombies, demons and guerilla fighters as they slowly swarm and take your position. The battles are some of the most fun I've had with an RTS, coming from a big time Brood War player and line warfare enthusiast. The soundtrack is insanely groovy, the overworld/diplomacy gameplay is decent (not great and a bit confusing, but pretty out of the way once you get used to it.) The story seems interesting, but unfortunately, the translation is so poor that I can't really tell exactly what's happening. Little tidbits pop up and really pique my interest, so if the developers ever read this, please consider re-translating this game. 9/10, try the demo and see if you like it. If you like Total War there's a good chance you'll like this.

This is a very underrated game. The story and world is compelling and draws you in, and if you enjoy a RoTK-lite experience with quaint graphics this will be a beloved game.
