About Thea 2: The Shattering

✦ AI summary

Lead a Slavic-inspired pantheon of believers through a procedurally generated world where you can conquer, build, explore, or diplomacize your way to victory using strategy, card combat, and resource management. This ambitious genre-hybrid offers deep customization with crafting and town-building, co-op multiplayer for up to three players, and countless ways to achieve your goals across uniquely generated adventures.

Thea 2: The Shattering is a follow-up to the successful Thea: The Awakening, which brings the idea of innovative genre hybrid, with elements of turn-based, 4X strategy, survival, RPG and a card game, to entirely new and thoroughly polished level.

The player takes on the role of a deity from the Slavic mythology-inspired pantheon and as such, controls the fate of a small flock of believers struggling for survival. This goal can be achieved in many ways, from diplomacy to war, from exploring to conquering, but any playstyle will surely lead to completely unique adventures thanks to the procedurally generated environments. Rich options, from crafting to town-building system, as well as the co-op multiplayer gameplay, make Thea 2 an ideal choice for tactically minded players, who are up for a challenge.

Key features:

  • Explore rich, procedurally generated and diverse new environments and biomes.
  • Expand your influence in the world, build towns, widen your territories or choose the much tougher path of a nomad.
  • Exterminate your way to victory, battle through the vast array of creatures or simply strive to survive till sunrise.
  • Exploit the many wonders of the land - discover and combine resources, collect materials and craft them into your equipment.
  • Become a deity of Thea and direct your Chosen to victory in a world inspired by Slavic myth and folklore.
  • Play together - co-op mode for up to 3 players allows you to build your pantheon with friends.
  • Choose your playstyle - become a warlord or a diplomat, or simply remain an outsider wandering the world in search of glory.
  • Survive any way you can and choose your challenge style as you resolve conflicts via battle, mental or spiritual challenges.
  • Free DLCs, built-in adventures editor and other modding tools.

After playing the first Thea for over 100 hours and loving it, I was pumped to play the second part. But after playing Thea 2 for a few hours I can say that everything that made the first part great, was diluted, changed or unnecessarily complicated or made more complex. I don't know how they did it, but Thea 2 looks graphically much worse and more generic than the first Thea and even the UI got worse by a long shot. If you want to check out the world of Thea go and buy the first Thea and forget that Thea 2 even exist.

I loved Thea: The Awakening. In light of that, I was super stoked to buy this one when it came out. I only played about an hour because it was so different from Awakening that I couldn't grasp it. Fast forward to two weeks ago (mid-June 2026) and when looking for a game to play I notice this in my library. Boot it up and try to grasp the mechanics this time. Immediately log 15 hours in two days. The game is amazing, the DLC is free, it has so much depth, what more do you want from your turn-based strategy game?

Loved this game and loved the community hub workshop mods that users made for the game. Great turn based game.

Ultimately, not that good. Very little (like weapon loadout) is explained, and most things must be researched offline. Resource management is cumbersome and amounts to a very tedious chore. Don't know why, but when my expedition finds things (weapons, armor, etc.), it goes to my village inventory rather than my expedition inventory. I'll give the devs the benefit of the doubt and assume this is a bug rather than an intentional design decision.
