Shiki is a compact narrative adventure that relies on atmosphere, visual imagination, and quiet emotional storytelling rather than complex mechanics. Developed and published by hata, the game presents a 2.5D fantasy world with clear inspiration from The Little Prince. Its small planetary environments, lonely characters, and reflective themes create the feeling of exploring an interactive storybook. With a playtime of roughly two hours, it is designed as a focused experience rather than a lengthy adventure filled with side systems and extensive progression. The story takes place on a small, desolate star whose previous lord is no longer there. A wandering boy who left his own world arrives and becomes connected to this unusual place, gradually encountering memories and traces of what existed before him. Geard, the former keeper, also plays an important role in establishing the history and emotional meaning behind the setting. The changing seasons contribute to the storytelling, allowing the environment itself to reflect themes of time, loneliness, loss, attachment, and remembrance. "Shiki" is a somewhat poorly made 2.5D point and click adventure where you help out a boy who becomes the keeper of a small, barren star, touching the memories of those who lived there, which doesn't make a lot of sense, but then we shouldn't expect too much. Narrative aside, the technical delivery is incredibly weak and was a leading cause of this product failing. What do you do in the game? Walk around, point and click through a few puzzles, get bombarded with poorly written, endless VR text because the developer didn't understand the "Show, don't tell" axiom of game development. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" textures on low poly assets, instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. short and sweet and a little sad but i really like the message behind it. i enjoyed it a lot!
