About Smack Studio

What Is Smack Studio?
Smack Studio is a sandbox fighting game with powerful built-in creation tools. Transform 2D sprites into 3D animations using our new animation technology, and bring your characters from concept to playable creation in a fraction of the time thanks to automation tools that speed up the process. Take your creations to the stage and battle with up to 8 players, or export your animations for use in your own projects!

Battle Mode - Current Features
- 8 Player Offline Vs
- 4 Player Online Rollback Netcode Vs
- 16 base roster characters, and 23 stages (plus one secret stage, if you can find it 😊)
- Take on friends or CPU players with competitive, fast-paced gameplay, ultra-smooth game feel, and high combo potential
- Unleash devastating ultra attacks of your own creation (ultras for our default roster will be designed with balance in mind for competitive play)
- Play using any DirectInput or XInput controller (even GameCube controllers, via the official Nintendo Gamecube controller adapter, MayFlash USB adapter or similar product)

Character editor - Current Features
- Create pixel art animations with 3D depth and rotation, using a new approach that maps 2D images to bones in a 3D skeleton
- Take a character from concept to fully playable character in less than 30 mins, by using one of our templates (or characters created by the community! Yay, teamwork is awesome!)
- Animate frame-by-frame to add polish and customizations
- Create custom projectiles and special effects
- Add functionality using actions added directly to your animations- a form of simple but effective coding!
- Steam Workshop support, which allows you to share your creations with the world, and choose from an endless supply of community creations

- Our patented tools can speed up the creation workflow for experienced artists or help new artists get started.
- Attach your pixel art to an animation rig and drag the bones to create smooth animations.
- Export your animations for use in any project you like. We hold no legal claim over any IP created in Smack Studio, and we'd love for artists to create, share, monetize, and do what they please with it!
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT CREATING ART FOR OTHER PROJECTS:
- The maximum canvas size is currently 256x256 pixels. We may be able to increase this in the future, but we can't guarantee it at this point.
- The ideal height for characters is between 50 and 150 pixels tall. Images significantly smaller or larger than these limits can still be used, but they are a challenge for the 3D algorithm and may require more manual cleanup after exporting.
- Please note our hardware recommendations. Smack Studio is more performance intensive than most other pixel art animation software, due to our 3D rotation and our integration with Unreal Engine. We hope the tradeoffs are worth it for players and for artists! 🙂

I'm genuinely surprised this isn't more popular. it has everything you'd ever want when it comes to character customization and game animationwise when it is used effectively, I've haven't tried Fraymakers yet but I am considering it, even though I'm satisfied with Smack Studio. I would also consider that an ultimate game due to the customization and creativity involved. do note that this is my personal opinion and you should treat it as nothing more than that. Smack Studio allows you to be creative with not a lot of restriction, as you can create basically whatever you want and have your dream fighter come to life. you can either import sprites from other games, or make the sprites yourself. I personally find it more fulfilling to make them myself but its ultimately your choice, and I find that beautiful. currently I'm trying to explore custom movesets in this game/program, I have no idea how to do so yet. there are tutorials for this program but I don't personally think there is enough tutorials for this program to help me. there is a discord server fortunately and I believe you could ask for help when it comes to character development. I do wish there was a feature to delete …2 found this helpful
So many problems. The UI is ugly and the HUD is hideous. Also hard to navigate and activate with a gamepad. No clear way to cleanly exit game with a gamepad. For some reason trying to press B to back out of menus worked inconsistently/infrequently. Despite having changed the music volume to max and the sounds volume to 75%, sounds are still much louder than music. Sometimes settings changes would not apply or save at all, and it was hard to tell when or why this was the case. I had to start a match to find out Vsync didn’t get toggled apparently because the screentearing was so rough. The graphics settings page might as well say it requires a mouse just like the controller settings page does, because what the heck is my joystick highlighting and what am I selecting? On Stage Select screen, the hitboxes of the buttons must be misshapen or misaligned, because Random requires very precise placement to be considered highlighted and selected. By default, pressing up on the joystick doesn’t jump. Maybe I could go rebind it manually, especially if I was near my mouse. Or maybe the game could ask a few basic questions about input preferences at startup, like when Halo asks if you’d …2 found this helpful
peak just get the game and make your own characters
Tis what it is, good editing software and pretty easy to use to make smash style fighting characters. the only issue is the subpar net coding, online matches can be very janky 9/10 would recomend
Undercooked, ugly and utterly janky to play. I'd reccomend something like FRaymakers or ROA1 instead if you want a highly customizable 2D platform fighter.
i accidentally left my computer on overnight playing the game and now i have 10 hours but regardless of that, great game!
