Soul of Recollection

I'm three stages into the game and loving it. Soul of Recollection is a great blend of puzzles, with this wild layer of suspenseful, psychedelic storytelling. There's a wide variety of puzzles and mechanics just in the first three stages. The game so far tells the story of two protagonists, you and another character you encounter. You're being chased by someone, though it's unclear what or whether that's even the truth. As you solve the stages, you start to unlock clues about who you are and what's happening. The game has an optional hint system you can enable. The hint system has two variations: you can get hints only, or you can ask for the solution to a puzzle. If you use the "Show hint" option while you're standing in one of the room/corridor areas, it will helpfully highlight the clickable locations without giving more info away. If you're looking directly at a puzzle, then you'll get info about that puzzle specifically. I'm excited to keep playing through it. Already strongly recommend it if you're into puzzles with a suspenseful storyline.

I’ve 100% completed this game—and without a doubt, it’s an outstanding puzzle experience with exceptional value. The game boasts stunning art direction and thoughtfully designed challenges that reward careful observation and bold, creative leaps in logic. Solving its puzzles constantly tests both patience and imagination, and in my opinion, the overall difficulty sits above the average for the Rusty Lake series—not in terms of unfairness, but in terms of layered design and ingenuity. It introduces many fresh mechanics and delightfully inventive twists; even as a seasoned puzzle veteran, I found myself pausing in genuine awe at several moments. The narrative unfolds subtly—through deceptively simple dialogue and carefully embedded visual storytelling. It’s minimalist, yet deeply resonant; every detail feels intentional, and the emotional weight lingers long after the credits roll. A truly memorable journey. I really enjoyed this game - each of the puzzles was different, and some not entirely logical. Highly recommend

I'm forced to write this review because I think I've found a bug and there doesn't appear to be any way of contacting the developer, they don't appear to be contactable here on Steam, and Googling doesn't get me anywhere, just lots of hits for orange ink! They don't even appear to have any presence on social media (not that I really use it besides Reddit). I was quite enjoying it, albeit there have been times when I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do, and the hints didn't help, forcing me to use the provided solution. Now this is where I may have come unstuck - WARNING slight spoilers ahead! I'm in a lab and there's a box on a counter, and there are three gems: a triangle, a square and an octagon. The clue by the side of the box tells me that you have to place the gems as though they were mines in Minesweeper, ie they should be surrounded by as many red dots as they have sides and, according to the solution which I was forced to check to see if I'd done it correctly (I had) this should then trigger an animation and reveal a pair of scissors in a drawer in the front of the box - it doesn't. So I'm now completely stymied; I can find no walkthroughs (written or video) for Soul…

At first the puzzles are quite decent, but unfortunately they get [i]very[/i] obscure later on. To a point where even after looking up the solution to some of them I can't figure out how you're supposed to reach those conclusions (like [spoiler]the ventilator controls in the cafeteria[/spoiler], or [spoiler]mixing the colors for the microscope[/spoiler]). Rating: ★★★☆☆
