Spellbearers

Simple shooter with great gameplay, but little content after you have completed it once. The story exists, although it is not particularly important. Essentially, it is set in a world where magic reigns. The order is upheld by spellbearers, but when one of them turns rogue and unleashes darkness on the world and its kingdoms, they must track him down and return corrupted rulers to their original state. You start by selecting one of the four characters. Aside from differences in color and facial features, everyone plays the same way. By the way, the gameplay is pretty simple: you only have to move around and shoot. A minor challenge is that there is no diagonal firing and you can only shoot in four directions, so constant movement and positioning is required. Combat occurs in chambers with four entrances. The goal is to survive a wave of various attackers that can appear anywhere in the area or emerge through one of the four entrances. Most die with a single strike, allowing you to dispose of them quickly. Especially if you make use of the random power-ups that emerge in the room. The game feels really good to play. The controls are tight and aiming feels smooth and natural. I spent a good 30 minutes just using the buttons without realizing you could use the other joystick even. the bosses are an absolute standout with incredible design and unique intuitive vulnerability mechanics. II really enjoy the art design from the almost nightmarish bosses to the cartoon player avatar the game is without a doubt delightful to look at. The power ups were all enjoyable as well. Each one had its uses and purpose and i always felt obligated to snag them whenever possible. The game is definitely a challenge but you start to get accumulated to the mechanics very quickly. It's a game where you get better just by virtue of playing rather than leveling up. The music is incredible and i would listen to on its own if it was available. On the downsides i did tend to lose my character in the particle effects leading to my death more than a few times, and the sights and sounds of the various attacks and power ups can be overwhelming. [08/20/23] I will preface this review by saying I do not normally play games like this, and I have never played Super Smash TV before, the game that this is supposedly influenced by. That said, I have had a good deal of fun trying out this game and have a few things to say about it. WIthout further ado, let's begin. Some small issues I encountered when playing: - When booting up the game, the resolution defaults to 320x200 60hz. I was unable to see any of the menu items clearly. It was not without some assistance before I could select the appropriate menu options to adjust to my desired resolution (1920x1080 60hz). As a consequence, I was not able to read the opening sequence without having to change the resolution, which can affect one's initial impressions of the game. Of course, this issue could vary depending on what system the game is installed on. - No option to stop autoplay text. During the scenes that describe the story before getting into the gameplay, you are given two options: Press [A] for Next, and Start for Skip. Fun game that reminds me of playing flash games back in the day. Good job devs

This game is so much fun, I just passed the first boss and oh my god, It was so intense but it was fun at the same time.

Spellbearers excels where it matters most: pure, skill-based fun. It’s an homage to the arcade era, polished with modern responsiveness and flair.
