About Stop and Breathe

Game Overview

  • Discover the importance of breathing during moments of stress or anxiousness.
  • Learn how to control your breathing to achieve serenity and calmness.
  • Solve a series of fun puzzles with a multitude of gameplay mechanics.

The Story

Ace is a young teen who starts to feel anxious about kicking off their day at school. As they head towards the school entrance, their anxiousness begins to grow and intensify until they experience an intense panic attack. Feeling scared and overwhelmed, Ace gets closed off into a warped mind world where they now need to find a way out. With the help of their companion Zen, Ace learns the proper timings and physical stance for the Belly Breathing technique, which they can now utilize to expel their anxiousness and colour the way forward.

Gameplay

In this mind world, Ace must navigate a disjointed version of their school by performing a series of simple platforming challenges, breathing the anxiousness away, and solving an array of puzzles.
  • Upon entering each new section of the school, mental blockers and a lack of colour fill the surrounding area, making it difficult for Ace to achieve their goal of escaping.
  • By finding a calm space to center themselves, Ace can perform Life Breathing to bring colour back bit by bit and remove their mental blockers.
  • Use the power of controlled breath when interacting with breathing terminals to inflate and deflate large balloons, change the directional air flow of fans, and rotate platforms to move forward.
  • To progress to the next section, find and place large books into their proper shelves to open doors and move on to the next page of the Ace’s journey.

✦ AI summary

Stop and Breathe is a charming, short puzzle platformer that most players appreciate for its cute aesthetics, gentle pacing, and thoughtful approach to anxiety management through breathing techniques. The game succeeds at being accessible and uplifting with well-designed mechanics that introduce new ideas gradually, though some players feel the relaxation and breathing mechanics don't meaningfully impact the gameplay, and a few find the premise itself uninspiring for creating interesting puzzle challenges.

I played this little free gem on stream and honestly had way more fun than I expected. The pacing is spot-on — new mechanics get introduced one by one, so it never feels overwhelming, just pleasantly clever. It’s a short, cute puzzle game that kept me smiling the whole way through. A friend recommended it, and I’m definitely not disappointed. Cozy, smart, and surprisingly delightful! 🎮💛

'Stop and Breathe' is a 3D puzzle platformer that teaches a breathing technique designed to help with anxiety. It features multiple platforming challenges and puzzles, 12 levels spread across 4 different sections, and 1 Steam achievement. The game took me about 30 minutes to complete, including unlocking the achievement, and offers a single ending with a convenient save feature after each level. The simplicity of the gameplay makes it accessible to players of all skill levels, with clear instructions and a straightforward objective: to explore Ace’s story and, with Zen’s help, learn how to calm your mind through the breathing technique. Based on the overall challenge, I would rate the difficulty as 3 out of 10. This game delivers a thoughtful and uplifting experience that blends gentle gameplay with an important emotional message. From the very first moments, it stands out for how sincerely it approaches anxiety, presenting it as something to understand and work through rather than something to fear. The story of Ace is relatable and compassionate, capturing the quiet dread that can come with everyday situations like starting a school day. Being drawn into a warped mind world durin…

I'm minded to be harsh with this game. The premise, averting panic attacks, is not good for interesting gameplay. Panic attacks are also a rarefied form skiving that I don't hold much truck for, so we're not off to a great start here. Our guy/girl, Ace, who's presumably asexual and has adopted the moniker due to their awkwardness around chairs, has a small stiffy concealed in a coat which billows around his waist to protect his modesty; note a modesty that has thus far not prompted him to wash the ♥♥♥ out of his hair that he received from his first interaction with a floating weevil that follows him around and which seems oddly obsessed with having him close his eyes for extended periods for perfectly wholesome reasons I'm sure. The game is actually pretty well designed. You're in a school with a lot of the stuff you would expect to find there like lockers, desks, books, and Ace's personal kryptonite, the strangely appealing yet scary and intimidating chairs. You have a short intro where you're chased through hallways by a wall of black stuff and fall into a hole in the floor. Symbolically, I've got no clue what that's s'posed to mean. Afterwards, your weevil abuser teaches you h…

This is was a fun and endearing little story. You're a kid with anxiety(at least that's how i read it) who struggles to overcome the hectic life of school but with the aid of a cute little zen master to help you breathe through your anxiety you are able to have a good day at school. This really was a breath of fresh air!

It’s a free, very short and easy game, the aesthetics and art concepts are nice, it’s clearly for casual and easy going players. I do think that the relaxing/respiratory mechanics are irrelevant, actually. Pues es un juego gratis, que se ve bien y es rápido de pasar, las mecánicas de respiración y relajación son realmente irrelevantes, esta bien para jugadores muy casuales y que no requieran ningún reto.
