Super Crush KO is a solid 2D beat-em-up that plays well and is visually very pleasing. It has a simple combo system and the opposition is mostly fodder to show off your mechanical abilities. It’s an entry level action game but I don’t mean that as an insult or as denigration. The streamlined moveset and general easiness of the game mean that it’s a good way to get the high of skillful action gameplay without huge investment. Like the videogame equivalent of solvent abuse. The plotline is fluffy and light, it mainly exists to provide context for the gameplay and as a vehicle for the occasional joke. Visually and musically the game is strong. Bright pastel colors and a poppy soundtrack make the game readable and energetic without becoming too busy or overwhelming. If you’re thinking about getting into character action games this is an excellent starting point, and if you’re a veteran of the genre then this is a good low-key indie example to relax with.
