KNOCKOFF is the kind of indie game that immediately separates itself from more traditional action titles through sheer personality alone. Created by PLUSHCATBOY, the game throws players into a bizarre supernatural shopping mall packed with distorted visuals, aggressive enemies, loud electronic music, and nonstop combat encounters that feel chaotic in the best possible way. It blends elements of beat-em-ups, bullet hell shooters, and surreal horror into a single experience that constantly feels unstable and unpredictable. Rather than trying to be polished in the conventional sense, KNOCKOFF embraces a rough, experimental style that gives it a unique identity from the moment the game starts. The abandoned mall setting is one of the game’s greatest strengths. Every corridor, arcade, store, and hidden corner feels drenched in strange atmosphere. The environments look like a mixture of internet-era nostalgia and nightmare imagery, filled with flickering lights, retro textures, bizarre decorations, and unsettling visual distortions. The game heavily leans into a Y2K-inspired aesthetic, creating an experience that feels both nostalgic and surreal at the same time. There is an intentional…5 found this helpful
you probably should be ashamed of your $600 goal when your pseudogame only has 30 minutes of gameplay4 found this helpful
a really cool and weird game, with lots and lots of style really sad the developer didnt get enough money to continue development, i really hope one day there will be enough support for this project for him to continue please support the developer if you can, this game is definitly isnt for everybody and is rough and hard to understand, but there really is something special here3 found this helpful
Look, Knockoff is a cool concept, with an awesome art style and I get a lot of time and effort was put into it. But the way the developer is acting is ..... childish? They expected it to make them $600 in 3 months after giving the game away for free and wanted $600 to make one new character and some more story content. I get development takes time. It takes effort. I've been working on stuff in the background and learning and growing for over a decade in that field, and I'm still not anywhere near releasing a game yet because I'm doing it when my muse and mentality allows. If the ART is the goal, people will come. It will take time, but people will come. If money is the goal, Working at McDonalds is going to get you $600 a LOT faster.... 8/10 game with an edgy "2000's scene gurl" artstyle. Very "creepypastaish". gameplay is a bit clunky and poorly explained, but that adds to the charm in it's way. Dev complaining that they didn't get a $600 funding campaign for their game, blaming the game industry after they gave the $3 game away for free, and saying things like "FINE LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW IM GONNA GO CRY MYSELF TO SLEEP" like people pointing out issues with the game is a…2 found this helpful
After hearing news it wil no longer receive updates, I can say that I feel like this game is too jank and unfinished for me to personally enjoy it. The pause menu has no options to go to main menu or skip the tutorial. No way to rebind keys. The movement on the skateboard doesn't make sense. The lag I previously experienced has been patched which I am happy about. The gameplay however is just still not there. I do like the small pause characters make when hit, almost like n impact frame. It does feel like you can get combo'd to death in those moments. That isn't the say the art direction and music isn't incredible. There should be sound sliders in the pause menu at least. I don't want to do the tutorial the moment I spawn into a fighting game. Let me play and host a lobby. I like the idea of a 2.5d fighting game and I wanted to see it succeed. At such a low price you could cop it and play with it for a bit, but I would say there are other beat em up's or fighting games worth your time and money. Best of luck to the dev.1 found this helpful
not sure what to think of this, but starting off by having to walk into a church and kill a little girl can't be a good sign, and reason to understand why it didnt take off, one of those things i cant believe someone took there time to create, but maybe im just old and dont get it, i do think the music is pretty cool for the most part idk
