About Tau Cubis

They are coming !
Protect your base and fend off hordes of relentless robots !

Tau Cubis is a 3D Sci-Fi Tower Defense game, taking inspiration from the classic 'Defense Grid' with extra features (collaborative Towers, advanced targeting system, truly autonomous enemies).

Tau Cubis offers different Map types and you will need to adapt your strategy.
Some maps will rather test your skills in "Mazing Tower Defense", while others will require you to manage your resources well and find the most effective combinations of Towers.

Smart Towers

  • Your Towers collaborate, buffing each other.
  • Your Towers can be assigned a global priority target type in real time :
Just one click for all Towers to target in priority a specific enemy type.

    "Mazing" Tower Defense game

  • Each enemy is truly autonomous and there is no predefined path !
  • Your choices immediately modify the dynamic of the fight for the whole map.

    111 challenges !

  • Each map is playable in 4 to 8 Modes for 111 Challenges .

    Leaderboards

  • Compare Your score to the best scores or just your Friends' through the Steam Leaderboards.

    Notes from me :)

  • Please, keep in mind, Tau Cubis is a solo game development, is not story driven and does not feature cinematic.
  • The more challenges you complete, the more Towers, Enemies and Maps you unlock.
  • Tau Cubis is inspired by other games and especially the amazing franchise : Defense Grid.
  • I'd like to offer you a minimalist strategic Tower Defense game with colorful graphics and smart mechanics :)
  • Full Controller, Mouse and Keyboard (WASD control or classic ) : your choice !
  • Quick to learn, easy to play for intense 20 minute session.
  • Online leaderboards, but you still can play offline and upload your scores later.

Don't hesitate for any questions or feedback at [email protected] or in Steam Discussion section !

Tau Cubis is a great little hidden tower defense gem. The developer is really responsive in the discussion forums if you happen to encounter a glitch not already fixed. If you liked Defense Grid, you'll probably like Tau Cubis. It's low cost, and adds value for fans of the genre who don't want to replay other tower defense games over again. It doesn't have a plot, but plot deficiencies are not uncommon for TD games. The store page recommends a gamepad, but all the time I've completed the campaign and most other missions types using a keyboard and mouse for the 50+ hours spent playing it so far. Tau Cubis will keep you busy with 111 total challenges (map-mode combinations). In addition to campaign, there are modes that include Super Wave, Super Mission, using specific types of towers, a time limit, a limit on how many towers can be placed, and no tower upgrades. There's an in-game leaderboard for each mission to give you a sense of accomplishment. [strike]The only design choice that bugs me especially is that wave counts are not available for all modes.[/strike] Update: the developer responded to feedback and implemented wave counters for all missions! I'm not a fan of the time lim…

I have really enjoyed Tau Cubis, it's really a hidden gem of a defense grid like tower defense. It is the closest thing I have played to defense grid. Actually discovered it from the defense grid 2 discussion forums. Very replayable, fun to try out different tower combinations and tower placements especially after unlocking other modes that allow all towers to be used, scoring/leaderboards are similar to defense grid. There are a lot of tricks to get higher scores in game and is very satisfying and challenging to discover these in each level. There are multiple ways to maze the levels and it feels like solving a puzzle when a good enemy pathing is found, and you feel like a genius when you discover an optimal one. It can take a lot of trial and error, but it is very rewarding to find a combination that works, incrementally improve on it, and end the level with a Perfect 9 (no cores touched) x2 score multiplier. Even after 90hrs of gameplay I am still finding incremental improvements on even the more basic beginning levels. And there is plenty to replay with 4-8 total modes for most levels (for 111 total challenges), including: -mission (standard campaign mission) -wave (3…

Tau Cubis, developed and published by Cube Mandarine, is an indie tower defense strategy game that focuses heavily on tactical experimentation and system-driven gameplay rather than narrative or cinematic presentation. Set in a stylized science-fiction environment, the game challenges players to defend their base against waves of mechanical enemies advancing across vibrant geometric battlefields. The experience emphasizes strategic planning, creative tower placement, and adaptability, offering a streamlined but surprisingly deep take on the tower defense formula. While the game’s visual presentation and overall scope remain modest, its mechanics introduce interesting variations that make each defensive scenario feel like a strategic puzzle waiting to be solved. The core gameplay revolves around defending a central base from incoming enemies by constructing towers across the battlefield. Unlike many traditional tower defense games where enemies follow fixed routes, Tau Cubis introduces a system where enemy units navigate the terrain dynamically. Instead of simply placing towers along a predetermined path, players can shape the flow of enemy movement by carefully arranging their def…
